Giveaway Day 14 — Art Supplies!

    Day14_HELLOgiveawayBanner

    CopicMarker2_HeatherBailey_b

Art supplies! Who doesn't love to collect art supplies!?

I'm incredibly excited to share today's prize with you. Copic has generously contributed a set of their Ciao Too
artist-quality markers. I've been researching markers heavily all year
and Copic stands tall at the top of the list. Not only does Copic offer
their markers in scores of colors, with a variety of nibs to choose from, but Copic markers are also refillable and blendable. That's right—blendable. The ink flows smoothly and colors can be blended together without glaring streaks or stripes.

    CopicMarker5_3up_HeatherBailey_c

They make several styles of markers which hold differing amounts of
ink, but follow the same color system. The Ciao markers
here come with a brush tip on one end and a chisel tip on the other.
With some product lines, you can choose which nibs you like best and
swap them out as you see fit. Most of their markers are
double-ended—except for the super-duper wide ones.

One popular style, the Copic Sketch marker, can be attached to their proprietary air-brush system where
colors swap out easily and there's no fussy clean-up.

I'm just mesmerized by these. Like every product I'm including in the
giveaways this month, I contacted the company because I genuinely love
what they do. I have been fawning over this prize ever since it arrived
at the studio on Monday. Someone is going to be one lucky duck.

    CopicCutout_300Copic
markers are top-of-the-line. They don't come cheaply, but they do their
job fantastically and they maintain their value quite well. With refillable alcohol-inks and replaceable nibs, these valuable tools can be used in perpetuity.

They work great for fabric studies and that works for me. I love them.

So, here's your chance to get hooked on these amazing markers too. Today's winner will receive this 24 pack of Copic Ciao Too markers. A $130 value. Thank you, Copic!

Follow Copic on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and the Copic Marker blog. In fact, check out the Gallery on their site for inspiring artwork and artist interviews.

    Giveaway Day 10

    Day09_GiveawayBanner

Happy Saturday. There's nothing like a busy first-week of school to
help you appreciate a quiet Saturday. We don't have one thing planned.
    Except another giveaway.

For today's giveaway, my friends at Martha Stewart are offering the winner their fun new book Favorite Crafts for Kids. This isn't a small, 24-project book. Rather, there are 175 projects included. I admit, my copy of this new book hasn't arrived yet, so I can't give you the play-by-play. But, everything the Martha Stewart company creates is absolutely lovely. I'm sure that Favorite Crafts for Kids is no exceptio

    Day10_MarthaStewart_craftsforkidsbook2

And Potter Craft makes beautiful, beautiful books. I met with them at Random House in New York City on this trip.
I thought I was having lunch with one person and found myself in a
board room with a whole team. The same team that brings us this playful
new book from Martha. That's another untold story. A positive one.

My Charlotte is wildly into crafts
and I'm excited to see what she does with Martha's big book of ideas.
If you don't have kids, let this prize give you a good headstart on
holiday gifts or add it to your personal library for rainy-day
    inspiration. A $25 value.

  • HELLO Giveaways!

     BannerDay01

I was chatting at my baby earlier this week, conspiring with him to
start a Birthday Month tradition for August—as we are the only two
August birthdays in my immediate family. With enough fuss, we'll surely
make the Mays and Januaries jealous. Midst our little tete-a-tete it
dawned on me that I neglected to host my annual birthday giveaway last
    year. Boo.

    TryingtoSew_HeatherBailey470
I will now make up for that. Right. About. Now. In the spirit of Birthday Month, how about a GIVEAWAY EVERY DAY for the month of August!? I'm talking about fabric, patterns, jewelry, equipment, supplies, etc.

    Sewing_HeatherBaileyWI
am SO very grateful to each of you for your love and kindness—and for
your support of my business and consequently my little family. I am
inspired by you daily and I look forward to your comments and feedback.
Thank you so much for your encouragement.

I know this madness will put me in a swirl, but I don't care. I want
to show you my appreciation. Celebrate with me. And let me celebrate
you. I'll post one new giveaway on my blog each day in August. To enter a giveaway, simple leave a comment on that blog post by 11:59pm PST on the day of the post.
Be sure to enter your email address so we can contact you if you win.
We'll draw a winner at random, send out an email, then announce the
result with an update at the bottom of that post.

If you are on Instagram as well, enter an additional daily giveaway for a $15 gift certificate. (See footnote in green below.) That's actually two giveaways each day, isn't it? This thing keeps growing!

    HELLOgiveaway_GiftCertifictae470

To kick things off with a splash, today's giveaway is for a $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE to our online store, HeatherBaileyStore.com
where you can stock up on fabric, felt, sewing kits, patterns, paper
crafts, and more. I have a new fabric collection I will be announcing
later this month. And I'll be releasing all-new embroidery patterns as
well—in between blogging about giveaways, right? This prize should come in handy.

    Remember, comment below
to enter and make sure to submit your email address so we're not stuck
with no way to reach you!

Good luck. And again, thanks for your enthusiasm and support. I love you guys.

    Blah, Blah, Boom!

Is it seriously my birthday today? The day might come and go without this sinking in – at – all. There is so much going on around here. Not only are we adjusting to the back-to-school schedule (yesterday, between us, Isaac and I made 6 trips total to and from the kids’ schools — 30-45 mins each trip!), but Elijah chipped a major chunk off his front tooth Wednesday night (emergency dental appointment), all of my licensing partners are asking for new artwork by the end of the month, and I still haven’t figured out where we are going to put this baby — who could come at any time — but will be here by the end of the month no matter what.

    HeatherBaileyCupcake

We have two kids’ rooms, one office, one open office, a loft, a turret-like play room… a closet. Do you bunk a newborn boy up with his 14-year-old brother who sleeps like a log, or with his 6-year old sister who doesn’t? Neither is the obvious choice. Or do you turn the teensy turret into an adorable nursery — that may only fit a crib and a nightstand. Nevermind the room is right over the front door (doorbell, barking dogs), it’s insanely bright in there, and there’s no sound barrier (such as a door). Or do you move the teenager into the office and the baby into the teenager’s room? Isaac is convinced no teenage boy should have a downstairs room by himself — much more a reflection of Isaac’s teenage years than a concern over Elijah as a mischief-maker. Besides, we kind of need the office.

PocketPosh_PeoniesI don’t know. I’ve been telling myself that we’ll just set up a bunk for the baby in our room for a while till we know what he’s like and see how he does with sleeping & such. This is still ‘the plan.’ But, what I realize now is that his STUFF still needs a place. So, where do we put the clothes, the diapers, the blankets, the toys? My room, C’s room, E’s room, the loft, the office — same contenders.

These are things a mother should probably address in the 2nd trimester before her energy is thoroughly drained. Alas, I spent all of my nesting energy on meeting deadlines and getting my business obligations squared away so I could focus on the baby when he gets here. Not a bad plan, really. But his baby stuff? I have to wash things and put them away — well, somewhere.

So, here I am. Tick, tick, tick, tick… the timer is about to chime. He’s coming out of the oven.

I should probably forget all of this for one more day and just go do something fun, huh? Antique-shopping would fit the bill.

Before I do, I have a birthday obligation to meet — my annual birthday giveaway! I have four new Pocket Posh books out with Andrews McMeel Publishing that – are – stinking – fabulous. I’ve got two prizes for the guy or gal who can cheer me up / calm me down / get me jazzed / sooth my swollen legs with a funny birth or baby story, a great joke, amazing advice, etc.** Your call.

    HeatherBailey_TravelMugsHeatherBailey_PocketPosh

Each winner can have his or her pick of one of my new travel mugs and one of our new Pocket Posh books. (Which I have learned are the PERFECT things to keep in the car for school-pick-up-line boredom. PERFECT.) They don’t just have clinical definitions and such — they have history, and interesting facts, and smart stuff. They’re really cool.

    • 120 Words To Make You Sound Intelligent
    • 120 Words You Should Know
    • 120 Words That are Fun to Say
    • 120 Job Interview Words You Should Know

** I reserve the right to be completely befuddled by all of your fabulous comments and to resort to the Random Number Generator for help if picking a winner is too stressful for my rotund self.

And, before I forget, can I say it is FAR easier to shave swollen ankles!? This fascinates me.

  • Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

Today is office-chair day. We've hopped from one store to the next,
gathering up enough chairs to outfit my new studio.  It's amazing how
much time it takes to finish each little step.  Stacking chairs and
folding tables are next.  I would have waited a month or two — till we
were closer to our first class or craft-night — but Isaac's good
friend is hosting a workshop for photographers at my office next
weekend, so I've got to hunt down those things a bit sooner. That's
    what's goin' on.

Oh, and my dishwasher is hogging up the kitchen floor and its
dish-racks are spread around the counters.  The dishwasher is having
some draining issues, so it's been wrenched from it's nesting place for
a deep cleanse. The kitchen is no-man's-land till we get it fixed.

    It's such a Saturday.

    -o-o-o-o-o-

With no clever segue whatsoever, it's time to announce some giveaway-winners!  A $50 gift certificate to TheVintagePearl.com goes to each of the following: (Lucky ladies, please email emily@heatherbailey.com with your contact info.)

"Oh my gosh…I would LOVE one of these necklaces! They are gorgeous. I have been wanting one for a long time."  Posted by: Jessica Bills | January 26, 2010 at 10:03 PM

"I LOVE Vintage Pearl; after some loud hinting my girls
gave me one for Mother's Day last year. I have been wanting to order
one for a friend whose 2-year-old daughter recently passed away. Thanks
so much for the opportunity to win!"  Posted by: Stef | January 26,

  • Happy Holidays!

    I
had a great Christmas week — plenty of time off, plenty of fun. Next
week I'm wrapping up several business projects and doing some winter
cleaning at home. I should be ready for the new year around January
3rd, which is far better than my normal acceptance of the new year in
    February or March.

Doesn't this holiday pin make a great bow?  Next year I'll post a tutorial & put together some kits or something.

    HollyTag470
While it's still holiday season, it's time to announce giveaway winners from the Meet Nicey Jane post a couple of weeks ago — $100 in gift certificates to the Heather Bailey Store. (Read the comments when you need a spot of sunshine. They are like reading a copy of Chicken Soup for the Soul.) Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to share your stories, weird information, insights, etc. I enjoyed every comment!  (Did I mention, you really should read those comments?)

    Here goes:

One $25 gift certificate goes to… JENNE

My husband had a terrible work accident close to 3 years ago. He has yet to
return to work, but did have his last hip surgery this past Spring. A friend
at church noticed our bald tires. This past Sunday we left church to find
    new tires–and a repaired tie-rod–on our van.
They had sneaked the keys out
of my purse, sneaked the car away to the shop and returned it to the spot
right beside our original one. We didn't notice until they all stood around
giggling as we packed the kids in the car. A whole group of lovely friends
was involved, and none of them has much more to spare than ourselves. I
bawled with joy over how loved I felt. They were just delighted they
    surprised us so.
Posted by: Jenne | December 08, 2009 at 11:06 PM

Another $25 gift certificate goes to… MELISSA

You did say you wanted weird, right? I was at Swiss Days (a huge outdoor
craft fair) and my mom and I were sitting at a table eating lunch. It was
crowded and two men and two women asked if they could sit with us. We
scooted over to make room, and one of the women remarked to me, "Oh, no. If
you are sitting by my husband, you better guard your food."
    We all laughed
and continued eating, although the man sitting next to me WAS uncomfortably
close. Table space was at a premium, and he kept scooting closer to me.
After each scoot, he would say, "Are you okay?", probably in response to me
leaning away from him. I finished eating, and laid my fork down, and he
leaned over and said, "Are you going to eat those cherries?" I glanced at my
pie plate and said that I was finished. He proceeded to grab a potato chip
from his plate, reach across and scoop up and eat a cherry from my plate.
Then another, and another, until even the cherry juice had been scooped and
gobbled. Just as I was thinking, enough's enough, and we were getting ready
to go, he leaned across me, looked at my mom and said, "Aren't you going to
eat your cookie?" We handed it over and scooted away post haste. So bizarre.
I love Nicey Jane, by the way. Jane would know how to handle some random
stranger eating food off her plate. Me? Not so much!
Posted by: Melissa | December 08, 2009 at 05:32 AM

And a plump ol' $50 gift certificate goes to… ASHLEY

On Saturday, my Mom gave birth to my first little sister! Her name is
Hadley. She is such a sweetie. 🙂 After 16 years and four sons after me, Mom
    is sure excited!
Posted by: Ashley | December 09, 2009 at 09:07 AM

    Now
Ashley can go to town spoiling her new baby sister with handmade
clothes, toys, blankets and more. In fact, Ashley's mom commented on Meet Nicey Jane later on, revealing that 16-year-old Ashley was in the other room sewing a baby blanket when her sister was born:

One of the kindest things someone has done for me lately happened last
    Saturday about 4 a.m.
I was in labor with my sixth child (only our second
girl) when I thought I heard the whir-whir-whir of the sewing machine.
    I
asked my husband what my daughter (our oldest, 16) was doing and he said,
"sewing a blanket for the baby". Of course she was! That's just how she is.
Thoughtful and crafty! Our baby girl was welcomed into the world with a
beautiful new blanket and lots of love from her sister and brothers. My
daughter loves your blog by the way!
Posted by: Angela | December 10, 2009 at 05:44 PM

    Merry
Christmas & Happy New Year's Week, everyone! Thank you for being a
part of my life this year.  I love reading your comments and
interacting with you all in this virtual world of blogging.

  • Plumpness

    Have I mentioned it's
great to be back home?  With an expanding roster of help around the
studio, we're starting to get caught up, even ahead, on some projects.
Rachel and Lindsay spent a day or two just putting together a plump
stock of Strawberry Pincushion Kits, after finishing up the Flutterby Flip-Book Kits.  Emily has kept everything else plugging along.  Being ahead is great.  I highly recommend it.

    StrawKit

So, back to The Giveaway.  What a variety of first sewing projects!  I've been reading comments all day.

    1.  Congratulations Lindsay BrownRandom picked you for the big giveaway.  Lindsay won a Freshcut scrap bag, a HB sewing pattern of her choice, and a Flutterby Flip-Book Kit.  Here's what Lindsay wrote.

"Hi Heather!!! Let me start out by saying I am an ENORMOUS fan!!  I
just completed 2 projects for my girls.  I made a pillowcase dress with
the Lime Paisley and I made my youngest daughter the matching capris.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE all of your fabrics!!  Thanks for posting this!!"

Kits2.  Random also picked the lucky Shannon / lilyhaven who wrote,

"Holy cow! 975 comments already! … My first sewing project was a
tiered skirt for my then 3-year-old daughter.  I was so proud of
myself!  I wanted to sew for years and years and finally broke down and
tried.  I've been addicted ever since.  I can't wait to see your new
    fabrics!!!"

I'll be sending Shannon a Freshcut scrap bag, along with a pack of HB ribbons.

     3.  Then, for AndieBee, who apparently barely survived her first sewing experience, I'm sending a Strawberry Pincushion Kit, along with a copy of my Fresh Picked Pincushions sewing pattern.  AndieBee wins just for surviving — and for calling me "cupcake."  Here's what AndieBee wrote.

"Hi cupcake! My very first sewing project EVER in life: I was three and
hangin' out with my Momma while she was making something-probably a
dress or short set for me. She got up from her incredibly snazzy Singer
machine in the wood cabinet to do "something", so I climbed up on her
chair for a better view. Momma always held the pretty colorful straight
pins in her mouth as she took them out to sew. I decided to help take
them out while she was away…of COURSE I put them in my mouth just
like her. And OF COURSE I swallowed one of those bad boys!! LOL

"All I remember of the rest of that day was having to drink something
icky and Momma monitoring my potties! Apparently it all came out okay,
since I don't remember having to go to the hospital. ;O)  I picked
sewing back up again when I was about 8 or 9, when Momma got tired of
making Barbie clothes, and I've been sewing since."

    Ladies, send me your addresses.

Thanks everyone for participating — and for the blogiversary hoopla.  I'm loving being back home and back to blogging, tweeting, etc.  Thanks for sticking around while I was away through May.

…which reminds me, there's something special posted for @TrashTies followers over on Twitter : )

And, speaking of plumpness, check out this blog, with it's cheeky background image.  Bacon-infused waffles?  I'll be taking my camera with me next we go out to the fair.

    Giveaway, Oh Giveaway

    Food5

I don't even know where to begin with all of the adventures
I went on this month.  I may have to grant myself a
Get-Out-of-Jail-Free card and skip immediately past Go — at least till
I'm caught up on some design projects.

    Food2noteThis
weekend I went through the first round of strike-offs for my next
fabric collection.  Gah!  I normally wouldn't mention strike-offs
because, really, it will be months before the fabrics are available.
But, gah!  They're gorgeous.  I'm ready to fly over to the mill and
screen the prints myself if it will speed things up.  I'm dying to sew
    with this fabric.

    Bridgenote2See,
now I feel better, and you feel worse.  Which is why I normally don't
say anything.  But, that's what I'm working on today. And that's where
    my brain is.

I'm also thinking about a giveaway to celebrate my blogiversary.  It's been 3 years now.  So, how does this sound for a prize?

    Hotelviewnote2
Leave a comment, telling us what your first sewing project was — or if
you don't sew, what your first sewing project might be — or if you
don't plan to sew, why not!?  Or your favorite remedy for puffy eyes.
I don't know, tell us something interesting.  Or just say, 'Hi.'  That
    works too.

I'll let this go through Thursday night MST, then hand it over to the Random Number Generator for an edict.

I may hand out a couple of extra giveaways too.  I tend to do that.

The photos?  Some shots from my weekend in Pittsburgh.  What a beautiful city!
