Sonoran Living

Phoneshota_2Yay!  I did it.  Live TV.  Of course, I forgot to bring a camera, so all I have is this goofball shot from my cell phone.  But, hey, it works.  They already have the segment up on the internet.  Now you guys can see how tired I look from many near-all-nighters this week (fabrics, fabrics, fabrics).

I was their featured "mom-preneur."  The set was surprisingly mellow and everything was easy-peasy.  I’ve always loved the hubbub of film and tv.  I wanted to get in there and start wheeling cameras around, then have my shot at that teleprompter.  How do those things work, anyhow?  Fun, fun.

So here’s what to do.  Follow this link and then look for the scroll-box on the right.  Select the clip called, "5/15 Sonoran Living Segment 5."  And there I am.  Then, come back and shout, "Huzzah!"

Go easy on me.

5/19 Update:  It looks like the video is now offline.  I’ll contact the station and see if there’s any way to post it directly on my blog.  I’ll let you know if I hear anything.

5/25 Update:  Oh, look, it’s still on ABC’s server.  Here’s the link.

  8. I just found your website the other day and I am so inspired by you! I launched my jewelry line, http://www.leviticusjewelry.com about a year and a half ago when my daughter was born. Seeing your success really gives me hope that I will be able to continue to make a living doing what I love to do while not missing a beat of my daughters milestones.

  9. I don’t think I’ve ever commented, and yet I love your fabrics so much ! but this time I wanted to say CONGRATULATIONS ! you’re great ! France loves you, too !

  10. Heather! I can’t wait to buy some patterns! I love the stackable ring idea…oh, let’s be honest, I’ll end up with all of them. 🙂 How cool that you were on tv showing off your fabric!!!

  11. Very nice tv segment. You are so personable and composed on live camera! I discovered your blog through a google search for “free headband pattern” two days ago. What a beautiful blog! I was up way past my bedtime looking and admiring and my husband wanted to know what I was so excited about. Our only daughter (she has three older brothers) sported her first headband today. Cute as a button! Thank you for sharing your talents with the world. I wish you tremendous success and I look forward to purchasing your fabrics and patterns. Go girl!

  12. Wow! I am so proud! Which I know is weird, since I don’t actually know you apart from the blog, but it’s just so cool to see all the awesome things you’re doing with your creativity and determination. I’m still down on the just-starting-out end and I can’t tell you how inspiring and awesome it is for you to share all this with us. THANK YOU!

  13. Also de-lurking to say congrats on great segment! I’m an avid reader of your blog and happy to see things going well for you. Thank you for sharing it with all of us!

  14. Superb job — both in front of the camera and in your studio! The sampling of sewing projects was so inspirational — and gorgeous. Any lack of sleep didn’t show a bit. You looked great!

  15. Oh, Heather! that was fantastic! I work on a show much like that one here in Nashville, and see people all the time–and you were wonderful. That host was slightly annoying, but that’s the name of the game.
    congrats!
p.s. I like you ever so slightly more if that’s possible just because you’re tall. I’m 5’12” myself!

  16. Heather, you are not only extremely talented, but you are also very beautiful, as well. Thank you for being such an amazing role model for those of us who visit your site everyday just to scoop up some inspiration to keep us pursuing our bliss. Thank you for sharing the video. I cannot wait to purchase your new patterns and hopefully I will get some of your fabric really soon. You are my SHERO!!!

  17. You did great – I love the patterns – I can’t wait for the pear pattern and the baby ring toy – my daughter would love that and what a great baby shower present!! Hope you get those patterns out soon!! I just got two boxes in the mail with your fabric – I’m so excited – I don’t know what I want to use them for first!!

  18. That was so FUN! You must be flying two feet off the ground today! Congratulations! All of your samples looked amazing! The pig is ADORABLE! I can’t wait for patterns! I just bought the magazine with the pincushion pattern today and I can’t wait to make it! You are an amazing role model for all of us moms out there! Thank you!

  19. Major props to you, you’re a natural on TV! I was thrilled to find some of your fabric at a sewing and crafts show recently, and picked up some fat quarters for inspiration. I actually blogged about you and your site earlier this month, not because you need the publicity (my dozen or so readers), but because you are just a great read! I look forward to seeing your patterns and book when they come out.

  20. Love your fabrics. I am so surprised that you live in Gilbert! I am in Chandler. It was fun to see the things that you have been working on, just beautiful. I am still very excited for the pear pin cushion pattern.

  21. Advice – You’re a very pretty woman, but your fringe is cut waaay too short which looks too harsh for your face.

  22. ::delurking::
YAY! Congratulations! It’s so nice to see you on TV and to match your actual voice to the blog’s.
    You’re truly an inspiration!

  23. Yep – I like short bangs. At least, for now.
And yes, yes, yes, the piggy’s a pattern in the works. She was made for the Home Companion shoot two weeks ago. So, I’ll definitely have to have that pattern polished up before the issue is released next Spring. She’s not first on the list, but she’s definitely ON the list : )

  24. Heather, great interview, very impressed. Not impressed with the show not being able to spell “you’re” – take a look at the opening caption about starting your own business. Too funny.
Glad to hear that you are a success, keep it up.

  25. How fun to see you talk and move. So far I have only seen your pictures. I really like your patterns and look forward to them coming out. And your book – and your next fabric-line 🙂
    You Rock!

  26. It was so fun to see the person behind this blog I read from time to time. I can’t wait till you come out with your patterns. The childrens stackable toy caught my eye. What a great idea!

  27. Huzzah, Heather! What fun to see you and your designs. Everything looked really great. I only wish the segment had been longer– a few hours or so would do it for me. I’ll be waiting for the patterns and the book.

  28. If you were nervous, you can’t tell at all! You are so natural in front of the camera, and I had no idea you were so tall! The host sure did ask some silly questions but you really answered everything with grace and poise. Yay, awesome segment!

  29. huzzah! i love your fabrics after finding them at purl patchwork last fall. the segment was great – you rock. i’m looking forward to the pear pattern after seeing it in quilts and more magazine, too. love your blog; photos are great.
    cheers … cindy

  30. Congratulations! huzzah! You did great. I bet your family is so proud. Thanks for keeping up this site. I’ve been reading it for a year now and love seeing your progress as you develop your fabric and the other goodies that come from all of it! From one WAHM (working at home mom) to another – you rock!

  31. Great job!! I just found your website not that long ago and you have really inspired me to start sewing again. I love your fabrics and I can’t wait for you to come out with your patterns, and your next fabric line. Thanks so much for sharing your life with us on your blog
    Jen

  32. Oh, you did so well! I’m really impressed with your not being nervous. Everything was absolutely beautiful. Can’t wait for that purse pattern – love it!
BTW, I think your bangs make you you. You go!

  33. Huzzah, indeed! I was hoping the reason you weren’t sharing that pear pattern online meant you had books and patterns in the works. GOOD FOR YOU! Direct us to the nearest store when it all comes out…

  34. Great job! Live TV must be just a touch intimidating (!) but then to have to stand through the segment would be my undoing. You did a fantastic job!

  35. Great interview Heather! You did not look tired at all and your fabrics looked gorgeous – thanks for posting the link so we could all watch it. Loved seeing another tall person too – I’m 5’9″ myself and tower over most of my friends, I’m even taller than my husband 😉 Great job!

  36. Heather, I’m just dying to see this but can’t get it to work for me- Is there a way I can just read it! I hear pear pattern and pig and baby ring and I’m losing my mind wanting to see it all! Your pic on your camera phone looks cute cute – I’m sure you did great and BTW I’ve always loved your shorty bangs!
    Smiles, JEN

  37. Heather,
It’s so nice to see you “in person” as well as “in type”!
I could gush about all of your beautiful, yummy samples (especially the purse and Miss Pig, so glad there will be patterns!), and now I’m thinking I’ll wait to re-do my living and dining room until your home decor fabrics are out, but I thought I’d leave you with my daughter’s impression.
While I was watching the segment my 6 year old came up behind me and did a little-girl-gasp and said “oh, mommy, she’s beautiful….”
The camera is more than kind to you! I think that’s a sign you need to do more TV! :o)

  38. Yay! Congrats on the TV “initiation”, I’m sure there will be many more to follow. I was happy to hear of the news of your book! Congrats…I was wondering if that might not be something in the works these days. Wow, 2nd fabric collection, pattern designs, book, etc, etc…fasten your seatbelt!!!!!

  43. Okay – so I’m late to the party. The stacking ring toy caught my attention almost immediately. I cannot wait to see that pattern. I have made the booties as gifts and that will be the perfect addition to a baby gift assortment.
Your were poised and professional and looked as if you belong on tv. Maybe your own show in the future!!!!
    Thanks for the link.

My youngest child is almost one and I see in the near future more time for my own creativity that has taken a back seat. I’ve been an artist for many years and recently discovered and am currently in love with fabric. Can’t wait to get my hands on some Freshcut. I think all the time about creating a job that combines it all and is family friendly. You make me think it’s possible. Thanks for sharing.
