June
has been beautiful this year. Normally it’s breath-suckingly hot in
June in Arizona. We’ve been camping and canoeing, working in the yard,
and eating outside at every chance. Being outdoors with my family more
than usual this month has put me in a good place for the Fourth of
July. Something about the lush cornfields that surround us, the
well-groomed campsites we’ve visited, and driving along the Mogollon Rim has me feeling patriotic.
In
the last month, I’ve seen a bald eagle nesting on top of a dead pine
tree, 200 feet up, I’ve picniced in a field of wild strawberries and
I’ve watched hundreds of Great Blue Herons dive for fish to feed to their hatchlings.
If you ever camp in Arizona, make a point to visit the movie-perfect Woods Canyon Lake. It’s looks almost fake, it’s so beautiful.
We
have a few more campouts planned for the summer. In prep, I’ve been
working on some fun camping crafts, recipes and whatnot. We whipped up
a perfect blackberry grunt in our dutch oven that turned our teeth
black — as though we didn’t feel mucky enough without black teeth.
But it sure was delicious.
I’m
almost to the crest of the mountain with my design work too. That
place where things begin to glide. Several projects now have enough
stored, potential energy to self-propel when released. Like a stretched spring.
First, a little more stretching to do. Burn baby burn.
It’s looking like a great summer.

dang. you are gorgeous…& you’ve got me all patriotic, too! just changed up my blog couture! happy summer!

Oh, I love all of your red, white & blue, Rhonna. How fun.
Heather, I love your red, white and blue trash ties on your braids. Your summer is sounding fun and I am glad it is not blistering hot there.
Ahh… gliding is good! Good for you – I’m sure it will feel good to get to that point!
Good to hear you are having such a wonderful summer…such an inspiration!
I too love camping! Are you a tent camper or trailer camper? Do you get electric sites or rough it have no electricity? Ever play ladder golf??? it is one of our new favourite camping games – hubby even made our set.
So jealous. Here in IL, we went from mild temps with lots of rain…too much rain to mid-July like temperatures with stiffling humidity. Wishing we could enjoy even something as simple as eating dinner outside without suffocating.
Enjoy it for the rest of us!
I am also from Arizona up north in cool Flagstaff. June has been absolutely beautiful, I can’t complain. Can’t wait to take the kids camping.
My grandpa used to take me fishing at Woods Canyon Lake every summer.
It was beautiful this month…but the heat finally showed up!
You’re right about the heat. Now I’m working on some things to combat the scorch. About to post a new ice cream recipe : )
I’ve been to that canyon and it’s simply beautiful! Love the way you show your patriotism with your trash ties. God Bless America! Thanks for sharing :o)
Heather, these pictures of you are stunning. You look like a gorgeous porcelain doll. One of these days, you’ll have to give us all tips on makeup for photos. I love the shot of your eye especially!
The camping trips sound fun – and the blackberry treat sounds yummy! Glad to see you put your new dutch oven to use. Our family loves camping too, but hesitate to go in the summer heat! Keep enjoying your summer.
We just returned from a camping trip with the babies. I look forward to the days when they are old enough to remember the places, the scents and the coolness of the river.
I have been watching a bald eaglet for some time. It has finally left the nest. I have not been able to read your blog daily (Dad w/ cancer) but will be doing better.
Thanks for sharing
Cindy
Hi Heather… yourTrash ties are super cool….and I could just eat your fabric!!! Anyway…ever thought of making a fabric with your name written all over it…kinda like what shows on the bottom of the fabric. I have a thing now for incorporating the end pieces that show the designer name along with those cute dots. Anyway..thought it would be cool if we could start cutting pieces of your name out and appliquing it to our design with your fabric. B.jane over at bjanebrewing.blogspot.com
My goodness, your hair! It’s so shiny! And healthy! Please, please tell me you have some kind of magical potion I can buy for the same results rather than just claiming elusive good genes, because I’ve got my credit card READY.
Oh wow. Thanks, Jessica. I can’t say I do have a magic bullet. I don’t dye my hair, which probably helps, though I sometimes have a tinted glaze applied to it – about once a year.
As far as styling goes, if I ever straighten or curl my hair, I use a heat-protection product. It looks a lot shinier when I wear it straight.
Gosh, otherwise, it’s got to be genes.
oh, our dutch oven berry cobbler turns our teeth black, too! hehehe i’ve since heard that an interaction occurs between the iron and the berries that do that…i guess lining the dutch oven with tin foil prevents it from happening, but i think i kinda like experiencing the occasional black tooth stain! 🙂
This is so cute tie. I like the color. She look so sweet in this picture. Thank you for sharing this and keep it up.
