What: Best idea ever
When: This week
Where: Fossil Creek
Why: 'Cuz it's dang hot outside
Isaac's
sister Evie and her daughter Maggie came for a visit this week. Beyond
shopping, and taking Maggie's senior pictures, their must-do list
included swimming in the Arizona heat. (Not enough warmth in Washington
this summer.)
We packed up the kids and headed to our favorite swimming hole, Fossil Creek, about 2 1/2 hours north.
What can I say? I had a blast.
On
our way home, we stopped in Pine for pastries — a little ol' baker-man
braids bread inside a funny little grocery store — another favorite
stop. We still don't know the name of the place; though it's right next
to the Sidewinders Saloon if you're looking for it. We are
always too distracted by the pastries, I guess.

You look just like the Jantzen diving girl! We’re going to have to get a map to this place from you guys.
oh my gosh! i seriously need to know where this waterfall is! i’m totally going to drag the kid + hubs up there next weekend! it’s too darn hot in scottsdale!
that looks like so much fun!
That looks so awesome.
I think you are ready to do it in a barrel in Niagara!
Wow, that looks fun! We’ve had a super warm summer up North as well but now it’s ended and I’m back to knitting mittens for the winter. And no waterfalls this side of the World, either.

Oh we so– have to find those falls! My girls would love it! I love that top photo! Maybe some wkend we’ll have to drive up from Chandler! =)
That place looks wonderful! I’ll have to put it on our to do list!
*sigh* I miss AZ! The pictures are so fun!
Oh, I love your pictures!! It looks like you guys had so much fun!!
sounds fun! My husband tells me it quite a hike back OUT. How did Charlotte do? Do you think my 8 and 5 yo could do it?
Cause that sure beats hangin’ around here in the HEAT!
I want to go to there.
That looks like a blast!
I would also love to know where that falls is. Is it off the Fossil Springs Trail? I have wanted to take my family for a day trip up that way! Please share the info!
That looks so fun!! Sounds like you guys had a great time!!
Enjoy!

I will put together a map to post.
The hike into the waterfall isn’t bad at all. It’s about a mile or so long(?). Mostly dirt paths with occasional dry, rocky river beds. Everyone will want to wear hiking boots or tennis shoes and there may be some hand-holding over the river rocks (if you bring kids).
All together, it’s pretty reasonable. Charlotte is 5 and has no problem with it. I’ll see what photos I have from the hike.
I just love the “slide” show…awesome 😉
Such great summer fun! Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Wow! That was fabulous!
Oh Heather what a perfect day! I can’t think of anything more enjoyable on a hot day. Love that slide show – not seen one before and it looks so much fun to create. Thanks for sharing your good times.
Oh my gosh! That is so funny! Sounds like a great end-of-summer day.
You are so brave! No way would I plunge off of there! I’d just sit on the bank and fan myself while you cooled off. Well, I might venture in and wade a little if it wasn’t too deep.

That looks like some ride down that waterfall.

Wow! I didn’t know there were still places you could do that! Pure magic!! Thank you so much for sharing!
The video effect you included is pretty cool looking. Nice post.
That waterfall looks amazing! What a fun hike and swim.
Sounds fun! We live in Flag but we did not go there yet. We’ve been to the Sycamore Canyon in June and other places in Sedona.
Thanks for making the map!
Wow that looks like fun but I don’t think I’m braze enough to do it.
It is interesting, I will go back to read them again.
Love is a smile drinking arsenic – know it toxic, but still fun.
wow that looked like so much fun!! 🙂
