Hey all. It's a good day. I'm getting a ton done. And there's a
tower of amazing chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen, keeping me
company.
Charlotte's birthday is tomorrow. But, last night,
when I tucked her in, I told her that her birthday was today — big
oops. In fact, we told her all weekend that her birthday would be on
Monday. I didn't realize the mistake till late last night. Shoot. We
did
consider just rolling with it, but then we would have needed to include
her preschool teacher, her brother, and her extended family in the plan
— and that's just too much.
I confessed this morning. She took it well.
Tell me I'm not the only one who has done this?!
It's a busy time, I guess. Charlotte's at
a childcare place three afternoons a week for the next two weeks while
I prep and move into my new space. (I'm sure this has something to do with my
improved productivity.) I miss her little self hanging all over me and
monkeying with my projects. Ah well. Two weeks, six afternoons. I can take it.
Check out my new wall. It even has lights. Oh yeah.
Oh wow. Craft soirees. Can’t you clone yourself (and your mom) and come on out here to beautiful central New Jersey? 🙂

Ok, maybe it’s just me but when I click on ‘new wall’ I get ‘Smarty New Year’. Now I really feel like I’m missing something. I want to see the lights.

So, am I really the only one who has messed up on her small child’s birthday? I originally thought today was the 26th. As it’s only the 25th, I did gain a day — so that’s good. I’m really the only one?
Well, Heather, all I can say is that it’s far better to be a day early than a day late! Birthday wishes to your daughter, and your new space will be amazing, I’m sure! (I’m new to your blog — instant fan!)
heather- i could have easily missed my daughters 5th birthday last week….As I just had a baby I knew I wouldn’t remember much so I asked my step-mom and my sister-in-law (in advance) to help make sure i remembered and celebrated her birthday…so, If it weren’t for them I’d probably be in the same boat as you!
I suspect if you bought her a balloon and ice-cream (a mini monday celebration) she would totally forgive you!

On December 9th every year of my life my family celebrated my birthday. When I got married I noticed on my birth certificate that my birth date is actually December 8th. My mother will never live that down! 🙂

A new space? Wow! And your old space was so great!
Whoa. Charlotte! That’s crazy. Which day do you celebrate now — the 8th or the 9th?!?
My grandparents did the same thing to my dad as Charlotte’s parents did to her! They always just celebrated on Thanksgiving and eventually forgot the real date. Today, we still celebrate on Thanksgiving… But, I do know the real date!
Mommy stories are the best. We have all done something similar especially when those important days fall amid the controlled ciaos.
Charlotte here — I definitely celebrate on the 8th…. and every year I must tease my mom and every year she still sends my card on the 9th just to tease me back. The calendar hanging in her kitchen has big red hearts drawn on the 9th 🙂 It’s these kinds of things that make a family what it truly is… unique and special!!
This is my first time at your site, I see your fabric all over the place and wanted a better look. But anyway, my husband celebrated his birthday on the 21st of January (instead of the real day, the 20th) for about 5 years. His Dad told him the 21st was his birthday and when his Mom contradicted, he didn’t beleive, so she went along with it. It wasn’t until he needed his birth certificate for a drivers license that he figured out the mistake.
Ha, my old work mate will be glad to know that she is now not the only person who told her daughter that her birthday was a day early. Tho she only remember as Carly came hurtling downstairs at 6am to be surprised. Oops. Poor kid, tho she soon came round after fairycakes for brekkie. A tradition they still do now xx
Hmmm, I didn’t get my twins birthday wrong, but I did intentionally move there 4th birthday forward by a week. Why did I do this? because my husband forgot it was their birthday when he booked his week away skiing with his mate. I confess so did I at the time, as I said yes to his week away. So we thought because they are only 4 they wouldn’t know the difference. What is worse, lying about their birthday date OR daddy just not being around. We thought they would rather see daddy. One day I will confess to them…..

Anyway, so I had to tell you that I totally messed up my son’s b-day last year. The day early thing. I didn’t even catch it until after we brought him breakfast in bed and sang happy birthday. so yes I had to do it the next day too. Oh well, double celebrating, who can be upset about that? Glad to know I’m not alone. Been to Charlotte lately???
