Snowflakes… Nose and Eyelashes

Braids2whb
When I was little, my favorite dress-up hair-do was looped pigtail
braids.  So, when Charlotte agreed to get Christmas-ed up for a recent
photoshoot
with a vintage theme, looped pigtail braids were the must-do
hair-do.

I couldn’t remember what my mom would do with the ends of my braids
though.  This required a phonecall. Turns out she tucked them up under
the rubberbands that held my pigtails in place, so the ends of my hair
were hidden next to my scalp.

Of course, I had to try this hair-do out with Trash Ties.  The
result was much tidier than my previous attempts with rubberbands.
Because I could just wrap a Trash Tie around each looped braid to
secure it — and I didn’t have to stretch a rubberband around the braid
over and over — the braid didn’t get all frayed and fuzzy.  And I
could easily adjust the loops to match each other.

The snowflakes?  Those were trimmed off of a felt garland I picked up
at Hobby Lobby.  The same Trash Tie that’s holding each braid in a loop
is holding each snowflake in place.  I just hooked the ends of the
Trash Ties through the centers of the snowflakes.  Kinda like tucking
paper into a paperclip.

Why am I going on about the hair-do?  Who knows.  I’m nostalgic for
looped braids, I guess.  What I really should be rambling on about is
this adorable little girl who is every bit as sweet and wonderful when
her hair is askew and dreaded up with popsicle juice.

The red & white dress makes me giddy too.  It gets my right in my Annie spot.

I don’t believe I can sneak-peek the Christmas projects from the
Creating Keepsakes article this early, but I can certainly sneak-peek
the little sweetie who helped me with the shoot.

  1. she is very beautiful in all her holiday splendor. I bet she was very excited to be a part of the shoot. I know my boys love to help with my work as well only they do not get to get gussied up and wonderful dresses.

  2. I am always impressed by well-made hair on a child. She looks so incredibly cute!
My girl is 3 with fine blonde hair that is halfway down her back. Will she sit still for me?? No way!

  3. Charlotte is BEAUTIFUL! Such sweet looking eyes. My daughter is 29 now but when she was little I used to fix her hair in cute styles too and dress her in pretty dresses. My daughter still fixes her hair in a bunch of different cute styles and dresses very stylish so it really stays with them when you teach them young.
Thanks for sharing your photos, Debbie

  4. Adorable – she’s lucky she has a mom with good hair sense! My strongest hairdo memory from childhood was of a very high ponytail that my mom INSISTED upon. Unfortunately, she also didn’t like me to have long hair, so the ponytail was more of a ponynub. It stuck straight out from the very top of my head. I remember riding the bus to school with my head tucked down behind the seat. Oh, the shame!

  5. It’s things like this that make me wish I had a little girl with hair to play with. Alas, I don’t think hubby would appreciate it if I braided the boys’ hair. Can’t wait to see pictures of the back of it. She looks very sparkly and beautiful!

  6. Oh, my. If I didn’t already yearn for a little girl, you’ve certainly pushed me over the edge. Sigh. Love the braids. I don’t know why, but my mom always called them Heidi braids when she did them on us. She looks adorable.

  7. one of my fondest memories as a mother is braiding my two daughters hair and styling it different ways. how i wish i would have had trash ties then!! she’s simply adorable!

  8. ahhh a favorite hair do of my as a young girl. I think my mom would braid my hair, lace a ribbon through the rubber band and then tie up to the form the loop.

  9. I can’t wait for my daughter’s hair to be long enough to do cute do’s with it! Your little one is ADORABLE!
I had long long hair my entire child-hood, but all my Mom could manage was twin pony tails on each side of my head above my ears. I loved braids, but my Mom couldn’t do them.

  10. Yes, I remember these hairdoes from the time I was a little girl!! They still look cute. But your lovely daughter is shining as a little star!! How wonderfull she looks!!

  11. She’s such a sweet model…she really does have the vintage look like my fave childhood books (“B” is for Betsy). My 5 yr. old has beautiful long hair & when I put her in braids her daddy loves how she has the Laura Ingalls look.

  12. what a sweetie!
I have been dreaming of Christmas outfits to make…must be the cool morning air. LOL!
My youngest two daughters are my models for the clothes I make…all the more photos to see them in. :o)

Can’t wait for the holiday issue to come out:) Maybe I’ll need that one signed too 😉
    xo
p.s. Chloe had a school project where they had to list their role model…well you know who that was!!!

  16. Oh my goodness she is adorable. Do the hairdo when ever she will let you. Who wants to look like the kids these days anyway. And I am with you on the dress too.

  17. She’s a beauty! I love that hairdo. One of my daughter’s pictures on the wall is similar. Love that neat, out of the eyes, old fashioned look of it.

  18. my mom used to do the same thing when i was little, but she would just braid a ribbon in at the bottom, which left no “fuzzy stuff” and then loop the braid under the rubberband at the top and tie it in a bow. i imagine you could do the same with the trash ties, and it would be easier too!

  19. What a lovely child! I am so glad you added the second photo. It shows her being extra cute wanting to take the shot but wanting to see as well. I always loved that you put her hair back and out of the way through out blog photos. We are still laughing over your nephew—Bacon Boy. What a wonderful wild bunch your family is! Your mum’s sense of colour makes you guys look tame. Keep up good work xoxo we would have written sooner but we had a bit of a storm here in Houston. ARh! Arh!

  20. Adorable. If I have a daughter, I’m braiding her hair! I never had braids like this, mostly because I don’t think my mom knew how to do stuff like this. I just had two pigtails that were always extra tight on my scalp. But she did a good job of making me look cute.
I really like the snowflakes. Good idea!

  24. Hi
My parcel of patterns, fabric and trash ties arrived to the UK this morning – it was worth the wait especially as there was the extra surprise of the flower brooch pattern – brilliant. I am now inspried to start creating something bright and cheerful which is what is need here after the wettest summer on record.

  25. That’s one cute little girl – love the pictures! And I see you had the photoshoot at my place – that’s my living room curtains in the background 😉

  26. Where is the pattern for the gift box as promised on page 68 of Creating Keepsakes. I love it and can’t wait to make one!!
