Suture-Free Future

Here it is, my live interview on NBC's Studio 5 in Salt Lake City. Catch a glimpse of my next mini pattern. Try not to glimpse the ribbon dangling from my shirt sleeve though.

Written instructions for the Pop Garden scrap flowers featured on the video can be found here. I had an incredible time in Utah this weekend. I met many fun entrepreneurs & was showered with some amazing presents — necklaces, notecards, homemade games, tee-shirts, chocolate. The Sweet Tooth Fairy's Double Fudge Cake Bites made my night on Thursday. Imagine oreo-cookie-flavored cake with a truffle-chocolate shell. Yeah. Holy happiness, Batman.

  1. I love what you said about “I don’t say No to myself” That is exactly what I think happens a lot of the time. I talk myself out of an idea before fully exploring it.

  2. Wonderful interview! Darn, I missed you while you were in Utah and I meant to attend SOMETHING…ah, maybe next time! So excited to hear about your new stationary line! I’m sure it will be wonderful!

  3. Heather it was such a joy to meet you at Material Girls! You are such an inspiration! I am taking your advice and never telling myself “No!” again when it comes to following my dreams. Thanks for being so creative and sharing your talent with all of us!!!
My readers are loving the Heather Bailey giveaway I have going on over on my blog!!!! I knew they would go ga ga for anything HB!!!
    Take care!

  4. Fun interview! Gotta tell you I am so enjoying making aprons from your pattern. I am getting ready to start my fourth because all my friends like them too. Normally I can’t make mulitiples of the same pattern but I’m not having that problem with this one!

  5. How adorable are you – even on the news! I frequent your blog and saw that you were going to be in SLC, and immediately called everyone I knew. Why did every event have to be that weekend? A cousin reunion knocked out my first and second string of babysitters, a Canada fishing trip knocked out my husband as a sitter, and an all day enrichment crafting Saturday knocked out my friends as sitters. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to travel somewhere fun to see you speak! Thanks for being such an inspiration. You are a breath of fresh air.
PS – I used your pinwheels at a wedding tradeshow, and they drew in almost as much attention as the invites I design.

  6. Hi Heather!
I found your pattern for Bitty Booties and realized a pair of them, with some modifications. If you like you can see the result on my blog (in italian, sorry)! Obviously I inserted a link to your pattern!
    Many thanks!!! 🙂

  7. Wonderful interview, Heather! I especially liked “Don’t say no to yourself.” That is one thing I have yet to overcome. I say “no” to me all the time.
    Your flowers are adorable.

  8. That was a wonderful interview Heather! I didn’t realize we have a little something in common…I’m a BYU grad myself but in Fashion Merchandising instead of design. I hear they have done away with the Clothing/Textiles program there now. So sad.
Thanks for the inspiration. I love your blog…and your style!

  9. These are the times when I wish I watched TV in the daytime! I had time and I could have easily gone to the seminar they were giving tickets away too. 🙁
Thanks for sharing your great interview and the fun project. I have one daughter who absolutely LOVES flowers in her hair so I will have to make up some of these for her.

  10. Wow-what a great interview. I love that you said you don’t say no to yourself too. I know a lot of people mentioned that before, but I loved that! Brook is in our ward. She’s a sweet gal too.

  11. I love your blog, and as a lds woman I am trying to find more joy in my own creations, and less comparing of myself to others. I have to step back and say, “okay, Charity, that was better than the last one you made! Keep trying! every one starts somewhere!”
So, thank you for inspiring me. I think I will stop comparing myself to others, and start learning from others. One day at a time!

  12. I love how easy all your designs are to make, with great instructions! Of course, it takes a fun fabric to make it special, wink, wink.

  13. You have made my morning! I’m in Perth Western Australia and got to watch you in Utah. Don’t you love technology. Flowers look out. I’m running art classes with children amongst my painting and you’ve just helped me decide my topic for next term – FLOWERS. I can’t wait to get those little hands, painting flowers, drawing flowers and making some of your fabulous flowers.
And thank you for your fabulous blog. It really is my daily inspiration…

  14. wonderful!! such a great interview! I’m one of those people that scribbles things out when I think they are “ugly” but now I’m keeping them!!
And I didn’t see any ribbon on your sleeve 😉

  15. Heather, the interview was great and I enjoyed the display. You are right about showing off your fabrics–the colors and prints are inspirational and I love to be surrounded by color while working.
The tip for never saying no is perfect timing as I was sitting here and sketching ideas. Thanks for that little ‘aha’ moment.
And I want the turtles!! So adorable.

  16. fun interview!! love the flowers and will make some of my own; thanks for the notching tip!! Hope you will sell some of that houndstooth pattern felt soon, too!

  17. A wonderful interview! I’m just about to start ripping my fabric up now … I needed to make some rosettes for some friends this weekend, but I think they’ll be getting these instead 🙂

  18. Wow! This was great. And seeing you make the flower made it seem so much easier! I plan on getting some felt and buttons this weekend! I am going to make a hat for my daughter, and this one of these flowers will help funk it up! Your interview was really inspiring too! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  19. What a great interview! I’m so impressed! I’m going to make a few of the flowers with my kids this week and use them for Christmas gifts for the Grandmothers! Thanks for the great ideas and beautiful fabrics!

  20. Love your fabric. And I can’t believe you went to BYU! Me too! Makes me love ya even more 🙂 Thanks for the demo, I’ve been dying to try out some fabric flowers and now I’m adding them to one of the dresses I just made for my future Etsy shop. Thanks!

  21. Thanks so much for inspiring us all. I often tell my friends about you. I wish I could have come to the few events you did in Northern Utah. I loved seeing you on Studio 5 though! I just finished my first nursing cover tonight for my friend and it turned out great. You are great and thanks again for giving so much!

  22. Do you have a picture or a tutorial posted somewhere for the flower you wore in your hair? It looked larger and fluffier than the ones you demoed on the show…
