I’m riding a small wave of winter-cleaning this week. It’s about time I box up my maternity clothes, as Charlotte’s almost two! However, I can’t quite pack up these three sweaters. I know I’ll never wear them. Never have. They’re just too boxy and big, even for maternity-wear. And who needs three of the same thing anyhow, even if they were a bargain?
Aah, but they’re wool…
So, I’ve decided it’s time for a re-fashion, my first in a long time. And, I’ve given myself two rules:
1. I’m not allowed to make a pattern first. I’ve just got to cut into it and work it out as I go (even if I don’t end up liking the result).
2. It must be slightly weird (again, even if I don’t end up liking the result).
I’m excited to get to work on it, as I’m in need of a project of no monumental importance, a palate cleanser. Ha! I like that. A palate cleanser. Perfect.

I can see some felted stockings for the holidays, patchwork purses, or maybe some ornaments coming from the sweaters. Whatever you do, I am sure it will be lovely! Good luck with your project 🙂
Good luck and have fun! Can’t wait to see the results! (You will share won’t you?!)
😉
I wish you many hours of fun and relaxation in the process of creation. Take care sunshine
Just the photo of the three of them sitting there on that chair made their purchase worthwhile. That chair is seriously wonderful.
I can’t wait to see what you come up with 😀 I’m sure whatever it is it will be absolutely precious. I’ll keep an eye out to see the results 🙂
That’s the best way to use maternity clothes – refashion it! I’m looking forward to the finished results. 🙂
Those sweaters are lovely. I also love that you always take your pictures at an unusual angle.
I can see those being felted and made into purses or ornaments or some of each. They are lovely colors, hard to find in wool sweaters.
I had the urge to buy up wool from the thrift store’s bag sale. I did that two years ago and have been making small scissor cases for my quilting ladies in the guild. I also made a sweet, blanket stitched tea cozy one winter afternoon while my daughter watched on, fascinated at how it went together simply and quickly. There is definitely something to be said for the joy and satisfaction of simple handwork. There was no wool to pick from this past year at the bag sale. Must be others are getting the same ideas.
looking forward to see what you come up with…i think the scraps could make some cute felted things!
Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
the colors are lovely — i can see why you want to do something with them.
Great idea – cant wait to see the results! Thought this image might inspire you …

I love it! I’m eagerly anticipating the results.
I can’t wait to see your posts about this since I have been looking at my wool maternity sweaters trying to figure out where to go with them…I’ve been considering felting them and cutting them into a pattern for a vest or something with the seams on the outside, funky little jacket perhaps – but curious to see what ecclectic thing you may come up with. Good luck!!
a better sweater. good thinkin!! can’t wait 🙂
It looks like they are nice colors so they should be nice after you’ve refashioned them.
I completely understand, that is what I do! I have had some pretty bad flops and some really good outcomes. It “Funner” that way.
You are so brave to just start cutting. I can’t wait to see what you create, I’m sure it will be lovely. Love your blog, your fabrics are yummy.
My boyfriend donated a cheap jumper (well, I bought it for him and it shrank in only one direction in the wash)… I want to redo it, too, but I’ve never done it before. I’m thinking either resizing it for me or cutting it up. I’ll be watching to see what you come up with, since I’m not that crafty and need loads of inspiration.
What a great idea – I cannot wait to see the results!
Cool! Let the cutting begin!
OH! I feel a yummy creation coming! Can’t wait to see what you refashion with them!!

OOH, I have a friend that felts them and cuts apart the pieces and sews them back together. So they all have different arms, fronts, backs etc…
Then she sews on felt appliques and buttons. They are sooo cute!
It’s a good idea to re-fashion the maternity clothing. Thus it won’t be useless.
The maternity clothes are an interesting issue because once you gave birth you don’t need them anymore. That’s why now when I’m pregnant I’ll buy cheap clothes because I don’t want to spend on something I don’t need so much.
