Well, the van’s all packed and we’re heading out the door on our long drive to Utah for a Tuesday wedding. I’ll leave you with this detail shot of a pear pincushion. I meant to include this in an earlier post and get your take on it. You see, the first time I made one, it only had one leaf. This time I added a second leaf. Together, the two leaves make a sort-of needlebook — poke the needles through the underleaf and hide them with the upper leaf. I’m still trying to decide which is better — any thoughts?

Yes, there have been a lot of pear pincushions around here lately, but I wanted your take on the leaves and I figured it was better to say ‘goodbye’ with a photo in the post — so, there you go. I’ll be back in a couple of days with handiwork from the long drive ahead. Also, if you’re waiting for me to respond to an email, please give me a few more days — it’s been a crazy week. (Rockport, Gina, Kathy, etc. this includes you!) Thanks for your patience — oh, and Matt comes home from the hospital today — Yay!

I like the two leaves. I like the needlebook aspect of it, but mostly I like the fact that you would expect one leaf and two leaves shows just that much more care and detail.
Two leaves, for sure. I looked back at the other ones and have no doubt. The needlebook potential is appealing to me – I like that they can be hidden and you can just enjoy the beautiful pin cushion.
two leaves is better. Really utah where, I live in Utah how far are you from here.
I like the simplicity of one leaf. To me, two leaves look a little cluttered, for lack of a better word. I like the cleaner, more spare look of a single leaf. Really though, they’re both wonderful (truly) and the needle book idea has merit. I’m not sure if what I’ve said is helpful but that’s my two cents.
Safe travels.
I’m going to amend what I just wrote (a gal’s entitled to change her mind, right?). I just went back and looked at all the photos and I think I just don’t like the way the two leaves are pictured here. I adore all three of the double leaved pears pictured in your “Birthday Giveaway” though. The difference is that the leaves are laying flat. I’m such a nit picker. *Wink*
adorable pin cushion!
Two leaves. Can’t do without a place for the needles, mine are always rolling off the table and getting lost. And, I think it looks nice too. Wish there was a pattern. I love this pear. (I’m also in Utah. While you’re here, don’t go to the Quilted Bear, but do visit the shops at Gardner Village).
Utah girl here too. But that is beside the point. What I really want to know is where I can get my hands on one of those pears?!! I really must have one! ADORABLE!! And I like the double leaves….but I’m an extra floofy sort of gal. 🙂
Whichever you settle on (I like them both), I really like the leaf/ves as a place to store the needles. I always just stick mine in the pincushion, where they become lost forever (and then stab me).
I like one leaf, I like two leaves. Sorry to be so indecisive! Glad to hear about Matt. Enjoy the wedding time.
funny – all of us Utah gals are frequenting this wonderful blog!
I say 2 leaves. But, it all looks so cute to me. 🙂
Oh Heather, “where for art thou?”
I love your pear pincushions, very elegant! Two leaves is a good idea, I always have many needles in the use. ^^
Two leaves for sure. The needlebook idea is so great!
Melissa
I like the two leaves. Great idea for a needlebook, and I adore your pear pincushions.
Two leaves definitely! I absolutely love these pears – will you be offering a pattern??
hmm.. i like it with the double leaf, it’s a good idea to have a place to put sewing needle so they don’t get lost into the main pin cushion. It’s really nice, very cute design!
wow, this is so cute!
LOVE this pear! The colors are exquisite!
i like the look of one leaf, however i like the idea of the two leaves…using to store the needles.
not much help, i know.
Yay! I am so glad your brother is going home.
I like the idea of a pincushion-needle case combo, it looks beautiful.
I just read the announcement of your new line of fabrics in the Country Living mag and I wanted to congratulate you, bravo, Heather!
You won a Plummy!!! Congratulations!!!! YEAH HEATHER! (I wonder if you’ll see this on your vacation???)
Your pear-pincushions are seriously wonderful!
BOTH! I have been admiring your pears for a long time. Did you creat the pattern yourself?
I love your work- especially the pears=) I made one that is not quite as lovely but did make my Gran pretty happy for Christmas. I’ve linked to you on my blog- and am happily giving you credit for inspiration. Hope your holidays are great.
I love the pears, leaves or not. I’d pretty much buy anything you come up with, Heather. In my next life I want to be you!
