One Door at a Time

We’ve had the ongoing project of installing a door under our stairs for oh, a couple of years now, I think.  I love the layout of our home, but its one weakness is its lack of storage space.

So, we decided to make our own closet — take matters into our own hands.  The stairs had to be re-inforced and the doorway properly framed.  And, that’s about how far we made it before abandoning the project for many months — a doorless closet facing the front door.

Well, good news, Isaac installed the door.  Yay!  And we picked up this fantastic glass doorknob (Anthropologie) to justify the visibility of our new junk repository — a bit o’ bling.  Now I wonder how long it’ll be before we install the doorknob.

One day I’ll have funky doorknobs on every door.  One day.

  1. Obscure, I know — but, it cracks me up that Homer Simpson calls each of his vices his “one weakness.” I had to throw that in there even if it sent a number of you on a tour of confusion over to Homer Simpson’s Wikipedia page.

  2. Your home sounds like mine…isn’t it amazing how we can leave some jobs for months before finally getting in and doing the final stages. And it always looks sooo good when it’s finally finished that I often wonder why I didn’t just finish it to start with!?? I just love those door knobs. Very funky!

  3. it’s so great to hear that i’m not the only one who abandons projects. in my last house all the abandoned projects got done just before we put it on the market — and it looked really, really good. after that i swore i wouldn’t do that again. ha! that didn’t last very long.

  4. This shade of green have been my color so far this year. I can’t get enough of it. I wonder if my husband would understand my motives to buy a lovely green glass door knob before we even purchase a house? Probably not. 🙂

  5. I love glass door knobs, and the green is great! We just started a new house project this weekend, and I’m wondering if it’ll be finished soon, like I hope, or in many many months, which is more realistic around here!

  6. I just got the new Spring Anthropologie catalog in the mail yesterday. I spent an hour alone with it (no kids!) sipping tea this morning. Heaven.

  7. I love the knobs. It’s a nice color of green. My unfinished project at the moment is handles on my kitchen cupboards. I’m putting silver plated spoons on. I need to coax my husband to drill some more spoons.

  8. Oh I love those knobs Heather!
I have a hutch/shelving piece that is so unique that that was made for me and I have been looking for door knobs for the cabinet handles for so long.
Regular knobs wouldnt fit the size of it. LOL!
    Thanks for the link. :o)

  9. Beautiful doorknobs…we just finished renovating our home recently and bought all new glass doorknobs, it’s one of my favourite things.

  10. I just purchased 200 Ripple Stitches by Jan Eaton just to crochet the Smooth Waves.
I have Jane at Yarnstorm to thank for that one! But, her ripple-work-in-progress did provide incentive to dig through that stash of mine! I am primarily a knitter, but am drawn to this pattern for some reason. I think I’m going to change colors every 2 rows, as Jane did. Take a peek at her site and I bet you’ll be hooking in no time!
I enjoy reading your blog lots!

  11. That is one gorgeous doorknob. When we bought our home and started fixing it up, my husband had the great idea of finding various doorknobs that we loved and having them all mismatched throughout the house. Of course, you have to have the time to go and find them, and in the meantime, you have to have doorknobs, so instead we now have a house full of boring but tasteful matching brushed nickel doorknobs from Home Depot. Someday . . .
