Market

This is my favorite bouquet of all time — peonies with those yellow ball- thingies mixed in.  When I left town, the peonies were electric pink.  Now they’re a romantic white.  I hope I age as gracefully.

Anna_and_heather I had a blast at Quilt Market.  I met up with my new Westminster family and was charmed by their vision for Free Spirit.  Days were packed with new friends and big discussions.  Evenings were busy with fancy dinners, even bigger discussions and a peppering of giggles.

Ms. Purl, Joelle Hoverson, has a book on the way – watch out!  Amy‘s having bags made.  Anna‘s in the rug business.  Sandi‘s getting fabric going.  Lots of energy.  And, thank heaven for that, as I slept a total of 10 hours over three nights.  Yikes.

Thoroughly Modern Millie had me in tears — twice.  And it’s not a sad story.  Darn that frantic jazzy dancing.  My feet tapped all the way through dinner with Holly and company.

I’m glad to be home, on the other side of a long string of commitments, de-mucking from the photoshoot and gathering strength for a final push on my next fabric line.  I am amazed and honored by the enthusiasm I received from sales reps, quilt shops and sewers this weekend.  I guess there were a few months there where Freshcut was hard to get.  The transition to Westminster threw a few kinks in the system and a majority of shops who ordered Freshcut months ago are just now receiving the line.  So much newness and excitement.

In fact, in one wave of gittiness, wrapping quilts around ourselves and posing for snapshots, we knocked over a heavy wooden pillar which clocked me in the foot.  How does a quarter-inch wound yield a 5" bruise?  Ah, the mysteries of life.

  2. No way! That little cut caused a big old bruise? Poor girl.. Market was a total blast, a time to remember for a very long time. I can’t wait for Houston now!

  3. It looks like such fun (in an exhausting sort of way!)!
Bummer about the bruise (but what cute toenails!!).
Those little ball flower things remind me of “Horton Hears a Who” so much! Have you tried listening to them?

  4. Looks like you gals had a fun filled time! I hope to get there one of these times!!! Maybe next time! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love that still life of the flowers! So sparkly! Love, Laurie~

  5. I live in the SF Bay Area and I am having a terrible time finding your fabric. I’ve asked all the local smaller private owned fabric shops, the larger regular fabric shops – no one carries it. The Fresh Cut I have I ordered from someone on Etsy. I so hope these places wise up and start carrying not only your fabric but Amy Butler as well.

  6. Looks like you had a great time- except for the bruised foot- that sucks!
You and AMH look like yall have been friends FOREVER in that photo!

  7. Wow! What a fantastic weekend (other than your foot). Sounds like so much fun. Love those peonies, we’ve got some bright pink ones just about to bloom too.

  8. You deserve all your success, you must have worked so hard to get where you are. You are living my dream! I am just trying to get started on my own little design/pattern business, so fingers crossed…

  9. I still have not received the freshcut fabrics I ordered through the wholesaler here–soooo bummed! I hope the kinks get worked out so all those beautiful Free Spirit fabrics can get distributed here in Europe!
Sounds like loads of exciting new adventures are ahead for so many of you ladies. I am looking forward to seeing all your business grow and to seeing all the new lines about to be released.

  12. I met the lovely Heather at Market! I saw her walking the halls and was starstruck! I mustered up the confidence to go to her booth and introduce myself. She is as beautiful in person as she in all of the photos!
Market was great – lots of amazing fabrics, creative booth designs!

  13. Love the pure joy and friendship that shows in the picture of you and Anna Marie…..sounds like a great time was had by all at Quilt Market – I’m sure trips like that get the creative juices flowing! Or maybe it’s the lack of sleep!
Hope the foot is better soon…..

  14. Yes! The shop I work at has waited forever to get your fabric and it finally arrived last week. I had just about given up… I’m so glad you posted the link to your pattern for it because I’m going to stick it right on the bolts.

  15. Oh my gosh I love the flower picture and those pictures of you! You are so cute! You should be a model!!

  16. *Now* I know why I am having a hard time stocking up on FreshCut! Whenever I find a fabric store that has a rack for it, it’s always completely decimated. I finally had to drive an hour and a half to a fantastic little quilt shop that had a full selection to get everything I wanted. It’s so exciting to see everyone so excited about your fabric! Yay!

  17. OMG! I can’t believe that left such a bruise! Now I feel bad for not getting you some ice. Can’t wait to sneek a peek at your new line! More scrappy headbands?
Thanks for being such a doll at market!

  20. Now I know why my LQS hasn’t been able to get in your fabric line. Hers actually came the same day you did this current post. Heather, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! It was worth the wait. Now I have to figure out what I want to do to show it off.

  22. Hi Heather,
It was wonderful to meet you at market (wish I hadn’t been 2 hours late to the cocktail reception so I could have talked to you and the other incredible Free Spirit girls more). Your book of pictures featuring Fresh Cut was completely gorgeous and I hope you write a book for sale very soon! I can’t wait to see your new line in Houston.
