Greenery

Glads_4
Fresh flowers.  Freshly- painted table.  Down with brown!  At least, in this instance.  And it rhymes and sounds a bit controversial.
Truth is, I’d love to rip up my tiled floor in favor a dark brown wood
floor, all knobbly and funny.  Impractical fantasy though.  For now.

Too tired to speak in full sentences today.  Maybe tomorrow.
Gladiolas were Isaac’s favorite flowers when we were dating.  I wonder
if they still are.

No matter how much I try not to play favorites with color, I always
come back to green.  Like a favorite child.  Most moms swear they don’t
have one, but usually all of the kids will point to the same sibling as
the favorite.  Same goes with color for me.  I swear I don’t have a
favorite color, but my close family and friends say that this is my
color.  Anything from a warm lime to a rich avocado.  Ya okay, they’re
probably right, but I’ll never admit it.  Or have I already?  I
guess it’s true.

This little wall separates our morning room (a.k.a. kitchen table
room) from our laundry room. What do you think I should put on the
shelves?  Recipe books? Vintage tins?  Nothing?

I hope that vase doesn’t stick to the top.  Too impatient to let the paint cure.

  1. Love your blog. Love your stuff! I was chuckling because my post the other day was the exact subject of no favorite color. (I lean towards green) Color is the best…how can you pick just one?

  2. Oh my goodness!!! I believe I have just posted the same message to your blog 4 times..I am sorry! Trying to press the back button, then suddenly I noticed…YIKES!!!! If I could delete them I would!!

  3. Ahh, yes-well I do have that green problem too. 🙂 I try and try to stretch myself out, but it is hard.
I say whatever you put on there is probably going to end up in Charlottes’ hands so it might as well be some pretty vintage children’s books/toys.

  4. I’m with you on the green, sister. I’d have every room green if my husband would allow it.
I love the shelf. Put pottery on it unless your kids run crazy around the house.

  5. I like the vintage tin idea, though I think it looks great without anything on it as well. I’m a sucker for pretty bowls with things inside also. I’m sure whatever you put on the shelves will look fabulous…all your stuff does. I’m still SO envious of your craft room….someday, someday.

  6. Heather, since the flowers are a special memory, put a few special photos on the table. Maybe a “trip down memory lane” table with ones of you both when you were dating (with the Dame Edna Gladdies – Hello Possums) right up to the present day.
IMHO it will only just get filled with junk! Well, it it were in our place! You never seem to have junk in any of your amazing pictures…. they are right out of a magazine.
Love your site – keep it coming!

  7. i love love love that table! i love green so much that i named my blog “green is the new blue” cause i used to love blue but ever since green stole my heart my husband has a little joke and says that green is the new blue.

  8. Since I started sewing, I have really come to love the full range of colors & haven’t had a favorite…
Though lately, I have been in love with green! It’s been at least a few months now. I let myself decorate my blog with it, but I’m forcing myself not to use it on any of my other sites.

  9. Great table. I like it as-is. For now anyway. Stuff can always be added later. Love your site. By the way – the whole trash ties subject seems to have faded away? What happened to them? Are they on the market? In production? Just curious.

  10. Love this color. It’s almost granny smith, but darker, and also one of my favorites. i say anything white. I love white with this color. can’t wait to see what you do with it.

  11. I love the table as is – and that green is an amazing shade – is it the same as the chandelier in your studio – care to share the color name? I am green fanatic as well!!! But what can one do with such an obession accept embrace it!

  12. I am a green person too. I think green goes with every color! Just love your blog Heather, and that sewing room. One day soon I will have a beautiful one too:-),if I could ever get this house sold! LOL.

  13. Hi! Beautiful table! If it were my table I would do white seashells in summer. Old books bound in shades of brown, green, and red in the fall/winter. And maybe bright blue & white glass bottles for spring? Have fun! Your photos of your studio inspired me-now that I have my own studio room I painted a thrift store roll top desk a light yellow-green! Thanks for the inspiration!

  14. Green has been my favorite for some time, but what shade of green? That changes all the time. I love the table, especially with the beautiful vase and gladiolas.
Also glad to hear I’m not the only one who is too impatient and has things stick to the top.

  15. Hi! Love your blog and your dedication to your blog readers. I still haven’t started blogging yet…wish I had more time to start one, for now I absolutely enjoy reading my favs such as yours. I have my own shop, a hubby and a couple of kids and in my little spare time I work in my design studio creating with your fab fabrics. I have a suggestion for your green shelves. Have you seen the Peacock pattern of Vera Bradley…your color green. Vera has a home collection with porcelain vases, frames, trinket boxes etc. My shop…oh did I say “My Shop” carries the New Vera Bradley Home Collection. They also have a gorgeous rug….the main color is lime green. If you would like to see photos….please email me at BlueEggInteriors@aol.com. I’m not able to have a website…VB rules but I can sell and ship worldwide. Thanks for reading my post. Debbie, The Blue Egg – Cottage Nest Interiors, Historical Huntingdon Valley, PA

  16. love green…why choose a shade? change of mood and a change of shade does me just fine! as for the dressing of the table, the items will have to compliment the green without overpowering the color. the flowers lend such a wonderful focus to the table.

  17. It’s quite lovely empty! Of course now that you have those pretty fresh flowers on top, you’ll have to keep that vase full from now on!
I’m the same way when I paint something. So impatient for it to be dry. I painted a square mirror almost that exact shade of green this week to hang in my daughter’s room. I decorated it with monkey and banana stickers. It still smelled like paint when I hung it on the wall. I ~think~ it was mostly dry!

  18. Fresh ,wonderful green,I love it to.I especially like a bit of lime green.I use it all the time in my quilts.Just a small amount brightens up a whole quilt.I love it,just like you!

  19. I have news for you: that’s totally your color! Ok, so it’s not a huge surprise to you, or any of us, that you favor the “warm lime” and “rich avocado” hues… The table is lovely, and I agree, some knobby wooden floors would be fab! *B

  20. Love the green table. In fact, I love everything you do! Your blog inspires me so much. I always want to dust off my old sewing machine whenever I’m done seeing your latest creations. (I have made a couple pairs of booties for new mom friends–thanks for that one!)
I’m a relatively new reader here…have you ever shown photos of the rest of your house (aside from your GORGEOUS studio)? I would love to see more of your home. What I’ve seen so far is so amazing. I love your sense of color and whimsy. You manage to make it look fun and sophisticated at the same time. Your look reminds me a lot of April Cornell (are you familiar with her stores?) but even more colorful. Love love love your designs and your blog!

  21. Absolutely gorgeous. I like the table just like it is.
Like another person mentioned, you are inspiring me to actually consider purchasing a sewing machine! I have never sewed (other than home ec class! haha!), but I think – I am no dummy! I can learn! My mom used to sew a lot and there is no reason why I can’t carry on the tradition! Thanks!

  22. I would love to have your tiles! As a hardworking mother of two boys and a hairy dog, who has dark wooden floorboards in her home, I can tell you they are VERY hard to keep looking clean. If you don’t mind dusting them every day it’s no problem, but I would rather craft than clean, so mine always look filthy. Love your site.

  23. I Love, did I say Love Green… My most favorite quilt is “It Ain’t Easy Being Green” and is my blog header. It now resides in my green, black and cream bedroom and the ribbons it won stay in my studio. Great color gorgeous with the glads… Thanks for sharing and inspiring!

  27. Hello Heather, I’ve been lurking on your Blog site for awhile now. You totally inspire me! When I first saw your Studio–I was in love-hehehe! I am finally writing today because I wanted to tell you how excited I am. I told my Mother-In-Law that I wanted a buffet & Hutch so that I can paint it (kinda like yours), and stash all my fabrics and crafts in there too. I have been all over trying to find one at second hand shops, well…this morning my Mother-In-Law phoned from this Garage Sale and said that I needed to come and check out this buffet & Hutch, it was only $50 !!!! Can you believe that??? I am so excited, I am off to the paint store to find that perfect color! Thank you so much for sharing all your talents!! Have a good weekend!

  28. Green is my favorite color, too. There are some greens I don’t like, but the warmish greens you mentioned are great.
I’d leave the shelves bare, too.

  29. That is such a lovely green, it’s olivey but very fresh. I think vintage tins on your laundry shelves and you can put clothes pegs, odd socks, dryer sheets etc. in them. But mainly just to be pretty.

  30. Hi Heather, Love your eye for decorating. That green is so unique. I was reading one of your readers posts that mentioned the Vera Bradley Peacock pattern. I have the peacock rug, placemats/napkins, lamps and chandelier shades in my dining room. The VB peacock is my fav. It would be the perfect green for your decor. Don’t forget to update us with a photo of what you decide to do with the shelves.

  31. Hi Heather. I am a big fan — great blog and your textiles are lovely. I was wondering if you could share some info on how you painted this table? I have a similar table that has a lot of carving and I feel like spray paint is the way to go because of all the deep grooves. However, I haven’t been able to find many good options in spray paint. Can you share some of your DIY tips?
    Thanks!

  32. I love the table. That color is divine. I really like the table empty, but if you need the storage, I would put items of the same color on it. i.e. all white dishes, books with the same color spine, etc…
    Love your blog!

  33. heather
i love reading your blog…you verbalize so many of my own thoughts – like the flower
thing – i have those same sad feelings – i really used to love fresh flowers and have had a hard time getting over the wilting part – thanks for sharing – i’m glad not to feel like a flower weirdo alone 🙂 the table is fab green btw…i like so many other of your readers am partial to green and have often equated picking a favorite color to picking a favorite child – not possible – but is it????
    anyway – thanks for sharing.

  34. Love the table and love the green! I’ve been gravitating toward that color a lot over the past few years. Used to be all blue in my house, but a lot of green lives here now, too! I’d love to find a table similar to yours, as I’ve been looking for something that size and shape.
