Giveaway Day 20

Day20_Charlotte-Pig-Doll

My day has gone to school meetings. Elijah switched high schools this
year and we're working to get him established at a school one mile from
our home. We were driving him 25 minutes away each day, back and forth
for the last two years, often several times a day and this really put a
pinch on our time at home as a family.

This year, Elijah volunteered to change schools. He and his dad both
seem okay with it. I'm still resolving my own feelings. He not only has
no friends there yet, but the school is in a different school district
and runs quite differently from what he is used to. And he had to leave
behind one of the state's top marching band programs (the reason he had
insisted on that school in the first place).

Day20_Pig-Doll_300I
hate that he's switching halfway through high school. Ug. I wish I
would have pushed more strongly for this close-by school two years ago.
I'm working to feel at peace with the mid-stream change. Today's
meetings helped with that quite a bit. We brought in a list of things we
felt would help Elijah transition well and the response was, "This is
what we, here, call good teaching. This will be no problem at all." Just
what we needed to hear! I liked his last school a lot, but the
administration at the new school made a great first impression today.
I'm one step closer to parental peace.

Additionally, with the high school only one mile away now, I can get
more involved and still keep my other two children on track. I'm
hopeful, but I'm still holding my breath nonetheless.

Day20_apronNeedless
to say, my giveaway to-do list hasn't shed any pounds today while I've
been out parenting. It's approaching evening time and I still have this
giveaway to post and a number of winners to select. So, on with the
show!

With a $35 value, today's prize
is a set of THREE Heather Bailey sewing patterns—Claira & Clancy Pig Dolls, Full Bloom Roses and the Daily Spice Apron—a variety of projects you can make for yourself or as gifts. Get an early start on the holidays. Or give the patterns as gifts.

For more information on my piggie doll pattern (my personal favorite of the patterns we've published), click here. For my first preview of the Daily Spice apron pattern, head back seven years to this post. (It sounds like driving Elijah around was a part-time job even back then. Boy, how long have I been blogging now?) As for Full Bloom Roses, we may have only announced that pattern by newsletter originally, so get the details here.

  1. When I was in high school, we moved from CA to WI in the middle of my freshman year. It was a huge, hard adjustment, but one I’m so glad we made! Best if luck to you and your son during the change! And thanks for the giveaway!

  2. That little piggy was my favorite project I’ve ever completed!! Think I’ll let her go to my niece this year.

  3. Wow! Busy day for you and your family and you still push forward for US!!! Just one more reason why you ROCK!!! Best of luck with the change and thanks so very much for the AWESOME giveaway!!!

  4. Wow thanks for another great giveaway. Hope all goes well with the high school change!! School counselors can be a great resource. just thought I would share-having been one myself. Anyways wishing all goes welll this year for your son and you.

  5. I have no idea how you’re managing to keep this freebie month going with so much going on in your own life too but you’ve been doing it for a long time, so I suppose it’s just ‘what you do’. I really need to get me some of that drive x

  6. I am glad you are finding peace, our children’s education is so important and our job as parents have an endless job description however is the greatest blessing bestowed upon us. Thank you for not only reminding all of us to keep God and our families first yet for also giving us something amazing each day. I will pray for continued peace for your heart and family.

  7. oh wow—LOVE those patterns! Thanks for the chance~
Fingers are crossed that everything works out for you and your son with the school—-parenting is definitely not easy!

  8. As soon as my daughter saw that pig she wanted one – so I’m in for this giveaway!
Also, I switched highschools halfway through and it was great for me. I never looked back. Hope the new school goes well!

  9. Such cute patterns! I’m hoping to learn to sew this winter. I think the apron would be a perfect learner project. (Or at least I hope since it’s so cute!)

  10. What lovely patterns. Your son will do fine. I do know how we worry about them, though. My kids are 28 and 37 and I still worry. I now have 3 grand kiddos that I worry about.

  11. I know a little girl that would love to have that pig made for her. I love patterns like that especially when you can make them out of material that you used for a dress for her. I think if I had the apron pattern I would make one for myself before I made one to give away. Thanks for celebrating your birthday month with us.

  12. Great learning opportunity for your son by putting himself out there to make new friends. You’ll love being involved and the extra family time. Cute patterns! I own some of your patterns but not these cute ones.

  13. I changed high school at the beginning of my junior year, right smack dab in the middle. We moved too, so my friends were far away, but it turned out to be the greatest thing that ever happened. It was hard, but I sort of just went in trying to make friends wherever I found them, and it worked out great (ironically, one of the things that helped me was joining marching band, haha). I’m sure Elijah will do wonderfully.

  14. Oh!!! I would be so excited to win this one! 🙂 LOVE piggies and this piggie pattern is just precious! The others are super nice too, but I’m kinda piggie partial! 😉 Thanks for the chance!

  15. I hope your son adjusts to high school well! This change will most probably provide him with experiences that will help him become a better person in the future. My family and I just moved to Canada, a whole new country, and I have to repeat the 12th Grade even though I already graduated from high school back in the Philippines! My parents probably feel the same way you do. Even though it can be tough, parents and children can both benefit from changes like this. Good luck to both of us! 🙂
On another note, those pig patterns are soooo adorable! I think it was really sweet of you to make one for your daughter first! Thanks for sharing it with us. 🙂

  16. I’m in love with these patterns! I’ve had them on my wishlist for awhile now! This giveaway month had been so so fun!
