We’re heading into the Thanksgiving bustle. I had planned to sew a
tablecloth and chair covers last night, a table design which started
out simple enough, but now involves tiered ruffles, piping and sashes.
As if Isaac’s and my creative symbiosis wasn’t enough to extend the
holiday prep from one day to four, while we were at the fabric store,
the dogs pulled up a section of our carpet and shredded the edge to
bits. Our night was then spent moving furniture out of the family room
and learning how to work a carpet stretcher.
One edge of the room’s carpet butts up to decorative tile and that
whole edge had to be re-positioned and secured. I’ve always wanted to
know how to do this, but it’s one of those skills I never expected to
learn. Now we’ll see how well the carpet stays puts. Let in the dogs.
Isaac is questioning the etymology of the word, catastrophe. "Dogostrophe is more like it."
As of yet, all we have ready for Thanksgiving are the goodie bags, but that’s a start.

Sounds like a lot of ambitious holiday projects! Good luck getting them all finished in time! I hope the puppies are done with their antics for a while. But you know they sense the excitement of the holidays too!
These look divine, mouth watering now 🙂
My dog performed a major carpet shredding/berber unraveling too. Unfortunately, it was my parent’s carpet, when we were visiting. Ugh, that was the worst, having to say, “I’m really sorry, but my dog seems to have destroyed your carpet…can I pay you back?” I’d love to see your chair covers when they’re done, I’ve been meaning to make some, but can’t seem to get started. Would love ideas!
I have a dog story to share with you to help you feel like it’s “not so bad” with what your dogs did. Two years ago my in-Laws had an english bulldog that was sick and some how managed to get out of his crate in the middle of the night. Well that dog ran around the dining room, living room and all up stairs (all carpeted) and left its runny feces all over. It was so bad they had to rip up all the carpet and replace it, but they went with bamboo flooring instead of carpet. I’m sure they did not laugh about it then but now they might. I hope this gave you something to enjoy and to realize that it could be worse. Enjoy your Thanksgiving!
Well, your dogs are so darn cute I bet it’s hard to be mad at them (for long anyway). At least they didn’t eat the sofa (been there, done that…).
We have an 8-year-old lab mix, and the worst thing he does is sleep on our old couch while no one’s home during the day. The cat, on the other hand … “cat”-astrophe makes a good deal more sense in this house! I look forward to seeing your decoration plan, and I hope the dogs are cute enough to make up for the trouble they cause!
You were going to sew a tablecloth and chair covers the other night for Thanksgiving TOMORROW? That’s adorable.
And awesome.
About all I have to do is find clean clothes to wear, and that’s pratically beyond my abilities at this point.
What do your Thanksgiving goodie bags entail? Are they chocolates?
Those goodie bags are so beautiful! They remind me of stuff my mom used to put together – very sentimental. Good luck with the table decorations – I’d love to see a tiered table cloth!
Ah yes, but… they’re very *pretty* goodie bags!
It is very cute that you are sewing slipcovers the day before Thanksgiving. I, on the other hand felt proud of myself for remembering to by flowers.
I have left a little something for you in my blog. Check it out…I promise you will more than likely like it 🙂
Of course, you know we’re all dying to see the new table and chair covers 🙂 I hope your carpet stays put after all that work!
I just realised last week that you sell your fabric on you site. I can’t find any where I live, so I’ve been dreaming of what I’m going to order…
Just remember to keep the dogs away from the turkey. Last year we had a close call when we took our one year old cock-a-poo to my parents for thanksgiving. After dinner I started clearing the table and when I went into the kitchen I found our dog up on the counter helping herself to the rest of the turkey! Luckily it was after dinner and most of the meat was already carved off the bone. She of course thought she hit the jackpot.
mmmh lovely package !
I bet your dogs were wearing
“sorry” faces…
I hope they at least looked guilty!
Sorry for the mishap, but it brought back memories of my dog Elmo (who has passed)
and warmed my heart…
how can you not forgive them???
hee,hee…
thanks for sharing
Dogostrophe, indeed. My in-laws’ two Airedales shredded part of their brand new carpeting, the day before our wedding in their backyard. Suffice to say, bad words were said.
Many good memories, preparing Thanksgiving meals in your kitchen. Wish I was there! What timing for the dogs. Remember when Isaac broke a bottle of Karos syrup all over the floor?
When it rains, it pours, huh? But the treat bags lovely. No matter what happens, the most beautiful parts of a holiday like this involve memories centered around the humorous, not the mundane. And, unfortunately, the humorous are only that after the passage of a bit of time.:):)
Happy Thanksgiving from one Heather to another.:)
Oooo Yummm!
Love your stuff Heather..and I have an award for you on my blog 🙂
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
….sencillamente impresionante….SO CUTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!KISS FROM SPAIN
Sorry to hear about your carpet..I know the feeling as my bunnies love to chew ours. We are redoing our family room and have decided no more carpet in there. We are putting down plank boards instead so they can’t ruin it!
LOVE those goodie bags, you come up with great stuff.
Kindredly, Lynne Laura
Goodie bags??? I want to come to your house for Thanksgiving! Sorry about the carpet. I would love to see the pictures of the tablecloth and chair covers you made.
ugh. Nightmare. So sorry. The pups must have sensed that you wanted a clean place… 🙂 Hope everything turned out fine and you got some rest! 🙂
I understand your carpet woes! My 6 month old German Shepherd just did that three weeks ago to my berber carpet! Right where it meets with the entry way tile, so it is the first thing you see. we are going to try to fix it but not sure that it can be fixed. Thankfully Thanksgiving was not at our house this year. Tiffany
Mmm, looking gorgeous and yummy 🙂
oh i like this pic, you’ve just helped me figure out my stocking fillers this year! thanks 🙂
