…literally, just a spot.

It was a beautiful day. Perfect weather. Snow was brought in from the mountains and dumped smack-dab in the middle of the park, where tank-top-clad kids in mittens could have a go at a holiday classic, the snowball fight. Elijah was a good sport and managed to avoid any altercations. (I broke up two fist fights between other kids.) He stuck it out with the ice-balls too, including one nasty thud on the face. Others had the foresight to bring a cowboy hat, a motorcycle helmet (great idea) or goggles, impressive innovations for a bunch of warm-weather kids.
Charlotte found her niche in chilling the lake. Back and forth from the snow to the water she’d toddle, with an occasional slide through the mud, bombing the lake with baby-sized snowballs (a smart choice of opponent, as a lake won’t peg you back and get ice down your collar).
So, while others of you are shovelling your walks and defrosting your windshields, we’re sporting shorts and sunglasses and snowball-fighting nonetheless. Ha!
But, really… I’d rather have snow and icy weather for the holidays. Christmas isn’t quite the same without the chill. Nevertheless, I’m grateful my kids had a taste of the holiday-fun-in-the-snow I remember from my childhood…
classic Saturday fun for a family that truly needed to get out of the house!

That looks like so much fun! I’ve never seen snow brought in like that. Such a treat. 🙂
Livermore also trucks in snow downtown for the Christmas parade/tree lighting ceremony. It always looks like great fun for kids. Looks like they’re all having fun in your delightful photos!
How cute! Everyone is still in t-shirts and short sleeves!
(Random fact: Out of three comments here, two are from Danielles. Neato!)
Oh, and the two Danielles are both Aussies :).
CUTE! At first I looked at the pics and was like…strange, why did the snow only fall in that one area? =P I wish they would dump some snow out the front of my house here in Australia for us to play in, but I suppose it would melt rather quickly =) xox
You still have green things where you live! I am so incredebly jealous! In my corner of the world it’s -7 degrees (celcius) and that’s pretty warm for December…
Omigosh, we had one of those trucked-in-snow-days here on Saturday, too. But I don’t think that’s the same park as ours… no, for sure, it isn’t, we don’t have a lake at this one. And for the most part, most kids (and parents!) were pretty well behaved. Sure was fun getting soaking wet, with no real risk of catching a cold. Here’s to same day snow adventures, wherever you are!
Lots of Aussie’s posting today! Your kids look like they had a ball Heather. We are off to New Zealand just after Christmas and I can’t wait to take the kids to the Antartic Centre in Christchurch where they will experience what snow is like for the first time. Looks like you had a great day!
I’m pretty sure our city does that, too. We can relax in our summer clothes while admiring the blinding white snow on the mountain tops.
This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. The kids are so cute.
HA Heather,
I told you about the snow and ice we got. No tank tops involved. I posted the pics on my blog.
Being stuck in old Utah, I can’t really get away from snow this time of year. I wish it would only snow in my backyard and at the ski resorts. Then I could still wear t-shirts. Great pictures.
Wow Heather, how fun…. truck some of that snow down to Sydney for me willya, my kids have never seen any!
That is the funniest scene ever! How cool!!
By the way, this Dannielle doesn’t live anywhere cool like Austrailia. Just plain old St. Louis LOL!
What fun! Great idea. So sweet, that Charlotte, all pink and muddy brown.
One year when my brother and I were in our late teens/early twenties we found ourselves bored on Christmas morning and tired of never getting a White Christmas in Seattle so we schemed and borrowed my dad’s car driving it an hour away up to the mountains, filled my the trunk (big American Chevy) with trash bags full of snow. We made a snowman in the front yard which probably didn’t last more than a day or so.
I am newish to your blog and love reading your entries. What fun that snow day looked like. Kind of like here in Vancouver….we don’t get snow very often, just rain. But we did have a HUGE dump of snow a couple weeks back and it was great fun for the kids.
I was wondering how you got into designing fabric? LIke where do you start? With a sketch? A picture? I am really impressed with your creativity. I always seem to run out of steam because I try to do too many things at once.
Tracie
Kids and snow. That timeless combination. And I must still be a kid at heart because I still get silly happy when we get our first snowfall every year. I think it may be why I could never consider a move to the south. Happy winter wishes to you. Martha in MA
awe fun! I think we need our own dump here, as it is a very unseasonal 65 in Nashville. I think I’ll get a large scale snow-capped mountain print to hang in the window on Christmas morning as a back up plan 🙂
xoxo,AM
Oh yay!!!!! I’m so envious – it’s warming up here now – we’re well into the 30’s (celcius) as I write. I’m dreaming of a white christmas…..
I live in Northwestern Ontario Canada and WE don’t have any snow. It really is so sad.
(… and a bit scary too!)
not sure where to post a big thanks for the yo-yo tutorial, i have had a blast making them! i live in so-cal too, wish we could get some snow for real!
It seems there are a few Aussies commenting on this blog! Perhaps we can relate to seeing people in short sleeves this time of the year. It looks like fun.
We spent the morning swimming and eating mangoes and cherries…perfect Christmas fruit!
