Yes, another yo-yo post. I swear this is the last one for a least… a week. And, no, I’m not obsessed with yo-yos. I’ve just found another use for the leftover garland bits – present toppers.Â
I’m especially excited about these as these jaunty wrappings have made me feel much better about my gift card presents. I’ve always held myself to a high standard of handmade gifts only and am finding less and less time to meet those standards for everyone on my list. And, truth is, I love receiving gift cards. I do. So, I’ve made a paradigm shift this year and gift cards are now acceptable to give, as long as I wrap them all cute and handmade-looking 😉Â
Isaac and I were terribly sick all last week and now Charlotte is quite sick with a different bug. What precious gift-making time I had has been given up to long naps and baby cuddles. And now that we’re on the home-stretch to Christmas, boxes desperately need to go out and baking needs to begin. So, giftcards are my new-found friends.Â
The spiffy metal tins are from the checkout stand at Michael’s. They float my color boat.

Heather!! We must have had some weird telepathic brain waves going on. I made something VERY similar for my present toppers this weekend. Using, in fact, that EXACT same shade of velvet ribbon (I got mine at Michaels). Anyhow, I backed the yo-yo’s with gathered dotted tulle…and placed a pompom in the center. I’m calling them “yo-yo puffs”. LOL All the thanks goes to YOU for inspiring me with your darling garland. THANK YOU!!!
these are friggin cute!!! I hope Charlotte starts felling better soon!
cute! cute! cute!
I’ve used yo-yo’s as present toppers before. I stitched them to one of those bendy/snappy hair clips so when it was finished being gift wrap it could be hair decor. 🙂
How cute are they?!!!! Wonderful idea.
I’ve cleaned out three separate Michaels of those little tins. My fave is the white one with red polka dots. No plans for them this year, but I imagine something wonderful will be put inside them at a future date!
The look gorgeous Heather. I think the gift cards are fantastic – it’s more important to enjoy the time with your family rather than rushing to make presents especially if you are not feeling well. Who wouldn’t love receiving a package that looks that cute!!
How adoryble are theese gifts packagings? Soooo cute!
I want to thank you so much for your fabulous yoyo tute…I made my first five last night, five to go and I’ll make up a garland (yeah, yeah, I’m starting small =P). SO fun! I can feel my addiction settling in… =)
I have started to make Kosher yo-yo’s and summer yo-yo’s. I look forward to seeing your fabric next year. Hope we can get in Australia. Hopefully, you might come with Eleanor one year to a Craft Fair.
I like your idea for packaging giftcards better than mine. I out mine in little felt stockings with a chocolate. Can I start again?
I am talking about yo-yos today. They are fun. These you made to wrap the tins are really cool. You can post about yo-yos as always as you wish, I love it.
Ooooh. Sorry about the sickies. I was sick last week for the whole week, and did it EVER throw me off!
Love the yo-yo’s.
I think I have to attempt the yo-yo, everyone is doing it! They are tooo cute. Great idea to use them as gift toppers.
Sorry you’ve been feeling bad…your packages are adorable though!
I think we must live near each other at times I was making yp-yo’s this last week and my entire family got sick minus the nine year old some how she escaped and I banded her to her room to read and make crafts so she wouldn’t get sick.
Funny I think that was great fun to her all day to make crafts oh wait I think that is what I do except the last week of being sick. My anniversary happened during that time not fun at all.
I love your new use of the yo -yo’s. Now that I am feeling better maybe I can finish the yo-yo garland swag I started for my sock shelf. I got all most all of them made before getting sick. Now if I just could get them sewn together faster.
I wish you all a speedy recovery from the dreaded bugs going around.
Your yo-yo package decoration is a grand idea–it’s cute, festive and oh-so sweet. Just perfect!
I have this crazy obsession with yo-yo’s too! I think I first learned to make them when I was 10, so it’s always fun seeing them in a different light! Thanks for sharing Heather!
I could never get sick of your yo yo posts. These are too cute.
Heather sitting in a pile of yo yo’s too.
Heather: I don’t know if you read all these comments, but I have to make one. I was feeling guilty about “boring” gift cards. NO MORE! My neices will have the cutest “yo-yo-ed” gift cards. Thanks for the great idea. It also motivated me to make fabric name cards from my stash of Cristmas fabric.
I always love the way you combine colours. And the pictures, they’re brilliant!!

Ahhh… lovely- lovely packaging. You are my official packaging goddess, Heather. Merry Christmas and a fabulous new year to you.
since I too have been sick for, um, 2 weeks now, I also must resort to gift cards instead of my usual handmade goodies. i adore this idea for wrapping them though. there is just enough handmade in it to put my mind at ease. fantastic idea!
I hope you are all feeling loads better.

ADORABLE! What a visual treat your blog is!
Kim
giftcards are the best – you can never go wrong and the recipient can choose a gift they want! i love your pics!
Precious use of these great $ finds at M’s. I especially adore the velvet ribbon. And you remind me I want to get on to yoyo bandwagon! Here’s how I used ’em http://jenduncan.typepad.com/whats_new/2006/12/hi_hope_you_don.html#comments
love your blog. 😀
Well, those are brilliant! I love giftcards too but rarely get them. I’d be tickled to receive one of those goodies. Lucky people!
Wow… So beautiful Heather 🙂
Kissies.
I won’t accept such sort of family though it is quite comfortable. I prefer the family with mom which is not rich but ample in my heart
