Many Months Ago

Pincushion1hb

I thought I’d break up the long train of toys (see last three posts) with a fun little pincushion.  Does anyone remember the flouncy bouncer saga and thereby neglected pincushion design?  That was seven months ago.  This little pincushion has remained in my cabinet since then, sewn, stuffed and tufted.  All it needed was a button — poor little pincushion.  And, as luck would have it,  I had just enough crafting time today to sew on a button — so here she is, neglected no more.

I’ve got a friend I’ve been meaning to send this to — the only blogger who knew what I was up to with Free Spirit last year (before I started my blog).  If you’re reading this, Amy, thanks for the happy email breaks during last year’s fabric marathon.  The pincushion’s on its way next week : )

For the rest of you’uns, I’m posting some goofy photos I sent to her mid-process (showing Freshcut in the works). But I am in PJs, so be warned.  Oh, and they’re terrible pictures – they were taken with the built-in camera on my computer around midnight – no light.  You might have to click on them to see what’s on those papers – eek.  That email was sent January 5, 2006.  Here’s what it said.  That was twelve months ago.

Iphotome2hbbordAs for today, I’ve been informed that a couple of comments have disappeared recently.  At least two.  So, if you’ve noticed that your comments haven’t stuck around, please don’t be offended.  The only comments I’ve ever erased are the occassional duplicates. Typepad was down a couple of days ago and is likely the cause.  I’ll send them a note and see if they have any more info.  Otherwise, be sure to hang around to type in the security code after you’ve commented.  I know that I forget that step sometimes and have had to go back in and reconstruct my thoughts.

And, again, thank you for each and every comment.  Such a treat!  I don’t have time to respond to each one individually, but I try to answer questions as much as possible and leave comments on your fabulous blogs.  If you have a question that I haven’t responded to yet, please feel free to send me another email.  I’m working on putting up a website with some f.a.q.s to help in some cases.

See you soon — Happy Weekend!

  1. As I said over on Flickr, Amy is a lucky gal. The red and turquoise color combination is a favorite of mine recently and the yellow and black offer a nice contrast. I also love the picture of you peeking out from behind your early studies for Fresh Cut (that is what they are, isn’t it?). Your eye and smile sparkle.

  2. oh wow!! thank you so much!
I just saw the pincushion on flickr and was drooling-didn’t even know it was for me!! you are too sweet-and it all seems like a long time ago, huh? so happy I still had the e-mail with the cute photos-

  3. I love the shape of the pin cushion. And what a fabulous document of a creative process and fabric journey your photos are, just wish I looked as good in PJs.
Wishing you a good weekend too.

  4. Wow….. I don’t think I’ll ever look at fabric the same way again. I didn’t realize how much time & thought went into the process of designing. I’m truly impressed and in awe! Congratulations….. you should be so proud of yourself!!

  6. Heather, I just discovered your blog recently and have been so inspired by it! I can’t wait to see “Freshcut” in real life- I haven’t been to my local fabric store in ages…

  7. Love the pincushion! Found your site not too long ago and realized I had just ordered some of your fabric! It’s more beautiful in person. Can’t wait to see the next line, too!

  8. oooh everytime i see your fabric i want more of it!!! i’ve decided to make a list of projects needing completion (or commencement) and the quilt will be one of them. i also want to sew one piece of clothing a month. i was inspired by my trip to the fabric store.

  9. I have NO idea how I stumbled across your blog but I just wanted to say what AMAZING photos you have! You don’t list photography as one of your specialties anyplace that I noticed, but seriously…if the sewing ever gets boring you absolutely are very talented in that area! I noticed your Yo Yos. I lost my Mom a year ago December 23rd and after she passed, I took her Yo Yos home with me. They were to be a quilt for my daughter but she never finished them. You’ve inspired me to do something with them. THANK YOU!

  10. Heather – I love the stuff you make and do, but most of all, I love your photographs. They make me want to grab a pair of scissors, some fabric, and craft! So much inspiration!

  11. You know, your craftmanship really is beautiful. I mean, I always love your photos and the things you make and your writing and your fabulous tutorials… but today I’m looking at this adorable little pincushion and just thinking… It’s so very precise. So well-thought-out and well-crafted. So many things that I’ve seen (okay, so it’s my own stuff!) is cute as long as you don’t look too close!
Thanks for always giving me something to aspire to in my crafting.

  16. Hi heather,
Thank you for sharing your lovely, fresh ideas. I really enjoy seeing all the lovely things you make. I love your pincushion and would love to make one. Are you going to post the pattern at any stage? I tried out your method of binding the other day and it went very well. I am thrilled! Had to say hello as we not only share the same first name but my surname starts with a B too!

  17. HI, The fabrics are gorgeous!!! I saw them in person, now looking through my patterns to do the fabric justice 🙂
I also love the pin cushion, one question. Can you please direct me to the pattern for the pieces. I can’t seem to get the pieces I’ve tried to match up when I sew them. The pattern would be so appreciated. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

  18. Hi!
I am happy to report that your fabric was a HUGE hit at the Road to California quilt show (I think we were the only ones to receive the fabric before the show—aha!) …Stephanie and I made a quilt and kitted it for the show and sold out of it the first day! Then we sold out of our 1 yard cuts of your Fresh Cut. Several of our customers, went right home and made the quilt kit up…that same day–they loved it so much! We are ordering up a bunch more..yippee for you and for us! Lets talk soon..
