Update

We made it through the dentist appointment.  And though I’m utterly bewildered, it seems that Charlotte’s already "over it" and has moved on.  Teeth, no teeth — whatever.

And, yes, they were both removed.  Well, mostly.  One tooth was already so broken-up that the root stayed put.  Her gums will grow over it, preventing infection. The root will eventually dissolve or get bulldozed-on-up by her future tooth.  It took three bouts of restraint – xrays, numbing routine & extraction – just gentle hands, no straps – and each only lasted about a minute.  Only a minute!  Yes, I’m still a bit mortified, but relieved that it wasn’t worse.  Thank you for your love and concern.  It’s amazing how many of you have endured the same disgrace.  We’ll see how we fare over time — I’m sure we’ll adjust, as so many of you have.  Still sad, though.

I’m heading out to L.A. again.  Just for one day.  But, before I go, I’ve got to spread the good word on an exciting and extremely flattering event taking place on eBay this week.  The Material Girls Boutique Group on eBay is heading up a "launch" of mostly childrenswear all made with or inspired by my Freshcut fabric collection.  To browse their creations, visit eBay and search these terms: "materialgirls FC".

I can’t say what a treat it is for me to see such a variety of playful ideas spring from my artwork.  Go take a peek.  And if you ever hear the term "launch" come up in regards to eBay again, you’ll know what one looks like.  That’s more than I could say a few weeks ago.  Those eBay gals know how to have fun.

I hope you can feel a little more peacful about it soon. xxx

  4. Poor baby! I would be heartbroken as well, but children are so much more resilient than we are. She’ll have figured out some cool new tricks to do without those 2 teeth in no time lol!
Your designs are just gorgeous! I’m off to check out those creations on ebay!

  5. So glad that your little rose is ok. Nothing to major. Often times accidents are harder on the mom than the injured kiddos themselves. The worst is over(until the teen years anyhow!).
Have a safe trip to LA.

  7. HI Heather
OH NO!!!! I am sooo sorry that happened. Our lil Matthew knocked his front tooth clear out when he was a year old. 🙁 She will be cute as day! Just hope she’s feeling okay. BTW I am good friends with elizabeth and she mentioned your blog to me. LOOVE your blog and fabrics! 🙂
    Smiles

  8. Glad things went well for your little sweet pea. I was wondering about her…
All the best in this venture of yours.
    Love your colorful creations.

  9. You may want to read (or re-read as the case may be) Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Bloom for some fictional teeth-losing experiences.

  10. So glad things worked out for your little one. And yes, mommy angst will reverberate long after the “baby” has moved on with their day.
I LOVE the launch outfits on e-bay. Just convinces me that my idea for a summer outfit for my little one out of your fabrics is a must do, no matter how much I am NOT a seamstress (quilter yes, seamstress not so much).

  11. Oh, I’m so glad your baby is feeling better. Kids really are so resilient! Thanks for the update! 🙂
I was flattered and honored to be invited as a guest by the Materialgirls for this launch. It was so much fun designing yet again with your fabric… like I said on my blog, “the possibilities are endless!” 🙂

  12. Sweet kisses to both you and Charlotte! What a thing growing up can be! I think I will faint more then Amelia will through the years over her falls. LOL!
    What fun! A launch! 🙂

  13. I am so glad your little sweetie is alright. My little sister was toothless until 1st grade and it really became her identity. And boy did she love to tell the story.
I bet it must feel so amazing to see your work on other people’s designs. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments. I have yet to see the fabric in person, but everything is SO beautiful when the patterns are designed. I need to hunt out SLC and find if any of the local shops carry it. I know the two I frequent most don’t. Darn them. 🙂

  14. Heather, I too am in a design group on ebay, though not the material girls. I made an easter outfit for a dear friends little girl out of your fabric. I put the whole ordeal up on my blog. You must checkit out. It is a riot! Tracy

  15. Visited the ebay site and i am awestruck!!! First,,,your fabrics—i am in love with (and have a lapquilt cut and ready to sew from your line right now). The creations the Material Girls made..well i’ve just never seen such sweet, finely-detailed, unique pieces anywhere else before. Your fabrics inspired talent and results that i am envying beyond belief. Oh my gosh…now i must go to work on my quilt to be amongst your fabrics….maybe the uberartists talent will rub off on me:-)

  16. We have been through teeth-smashing experiences with our now five and a half year old son, too. Luckily, he didn’t lose his teeth, he just weakened the roots to his baby teeth, which still may or may not fall out prematurely. Kids usually lose their bottom front teeth around the five year mark. My son lost both of his bottom front teeth then, and the permanent teeth are now growing in nicely. The top front teeth are still pretty firmly planted, but they have turned slightly darker in color. Hopefully, he’ll lose those around the six year mark like my daughter did! Anyway, love your fabrics, your photos, and your blog stuff! Hope all is well with your little girl! Take care.

  17. Hi Heather! Glad to hear little Charlotte is doing well and that she bounced back so quickly. Also, I saw the cute little girl designs on EBay. It’s amazing how many adorable little outfits have been made. Your creativity has sparked so much more creativity. Your fabric is perfect for springtime. Just looking at it makes me want to start sewing!

  18. the clothes look so great because your fabric range lives up to its name – fresh cut. I just love it. Our fabric shop gave us a little challenge to make something with your fabrics, and if you go to my blog you can see what i made, with a link to some of the others.
glad to hear your daughter is trooping on too.

  19. Oh, I’m so glad it’s over. You were in my prayers. I have a little one the same age, so I know how heart-wrenching it must have been. Glad to know she is okay!

  20. Oh Heather, glad to know your little one came through the dentist appointment. As moms, we all do the what if?? Hope she is feeling better!
I have purchased a lot of your fabric, because it has inspired me to learn how to quilt! thanks for all your years of work to create this beautifl line!! chris

  21. Poor little Rose. You can never be there every single second, even though you want to. Mommy guilt is my least favorite thing.
Your fabrics are so pretty, I am excited to check out what those girls have going on Ebay!
    Best Wishes…

  22. Poor baby girl. If she can do it, then I have no excuse not to go get my cracked tooth fixed. I’m such a baby though!
Your fabrics are so decadent, and the creations these women come up with using them is inspiring.
I just love your blog, and the beautiful pictures you have here. Great work!

  23. Don’t worry, your little one will look just as cute as she ever did. My daughter chipped her two front teeth almost down to the gums when she was about 1 1/2 years old. Luckily she was able to keep them. She did have to go for about 6 years without her two front teeth but she managed to stay as cute as a button.:)HOpe your daughter will get to feelin’ better real soon. 🙂 Take care.

  24. oh what a time you’ve had of late…glad it’s over and I’m sure she is still very cute 🙂 Congratulations on your fabrics, will have to check it out.

  25. Oh gosh Anna…thanks for mentioning me!!
I LOVE all Heathers fabrics and have created several sets with them!!
Heather…you are sooo talented and such an inspiration!! Hope your little sweetie is feeling better!!
    Laurie

  26. Oops…I guess it was Heidi that posted a link to my set….YIKES…thanks. Its hard to read these things sometimes!!
Regardless….off to sew with some more of Heathers gorgeous fabric!!

  27. hi heather,
i just stumbled upon your blog this morning (no idea the path that led me to it anymore) but i have to say… i am BLOWN away by your new fabrics. i am a total fabric junky and am in love with your designs. needless to say, i have marked your blog as a fave and will continue to check in regularly. so silly question, but where can i buy your fabrics? so in summary, you have an amazing eye for design and your use of color rocks!
    a huge new fan,
    lisa

  28. So sorry to hear this little darling had such an accident – teeth are my biggest nightmare (accidents, cavities and such…) I have a little girl, too and it’s easy to understand how you felt, like most Moms would. However if Charlotte completed her baby teeth early, it’s possible that she might have her adult teeth early – dentists think both are related. My daughter had the tooth fairy visiting first time just around her 5th Birthday… so maybe your daughter won’t have to wait for 5 long years.
On a most cheerful note, I love your fabrics and already bought some of them (all the way from France !!!) – they’re beautiful and you’re very talented. Thanks so much for your inspiring blog, too !

  29. What a relief that the dentist visit went so easily. My Jack broke one of his teeth when he was about 16 months old, and it was really a heartbreaker for me. I hope you are also feeling better about the incident yourself!
