Yes, there were three bouquetsThree.  I didn’t get to the roses in time.  They didn’t give
me much time either.  Can you say "dead in one day?"  I snapped a photo
for my own amusement, but it turned out kinda pretty-looking.  Hum "The Roses are Dead" along with this catchy tune.  There, that’ll keep the dreary
wilts away.

I’m putting the finishing touches on a couple of big things that you
guys have been waiting for for an embarrassingly long time.  I’m
hesitant to come right out and say anything specific until I’m truly
done.  Truth is, bigger, more amazing projects keep getting in the way
and none of these can really be talked about just yet because they
involve other people and companies.  Aargh. (I mean yay!  A good problem.)

I’m not twiddling my thumbs… unless it’s to massage them from overuse.  And then fun things come along that I can blog about, but I don’t get the camera out until the sun goes down.  Aargh again.  (I mean aargh.)

I have a pattern out in Sew News Holidays right now.  It’s been out
for weeks.  Have I mentioned it?  I picked up a doll house for
Charlotte for Christmas.  Have I taken "before" photos and asked for
your suggestions?  Laura made me the most amazing poppy painting while
she was here.  Have I shown you?  Have I sung her glorious praises?
(Well, maybe that last one.)

Hang in there, you.  Hang in there, me.  Big things are coming.

Big things are slow 🙂

  1. DUDE. what’s with that teaser link??! 😛 here i am thinking i’m clicking to get some sort of insight into one of these FAB!U!LOUS! projects, and it’s some nerdy science thing. gosh 😉

  2. I’m looking forward to your big surprise! In terms of the dollhouse, you might want to look at Amy Power’s Inspireco blog as well as her Club Little House blog for ideas.

  3. Hey, Heather! I’ve been patiently waiting! I’d assumed all along that you were super busy and that you’d hit us with something fabulous. Good things come to those who wait! Speaking of Good Things…. I’ll shoot you an email!

  4. You know, when flowers are starting to wilt, you can add an Aspirin (the non-enteric coated kind) and a sprite to the water and they will perk back up!

  5. I’ve been stalking your blog for months now, but that last link forced an official comment out of me. Not only are you THE craftiest person I know and the inspiration behind everything I aspire to be, but you are hilarious. Nice graph.

  6. Thanks, Ana, I know it’s a Marianne Williamson quote, but can’t have them fix it on their site until my next line of fabric goes online. Till then, Nelson’s got the credit 🙁 Ah well. Thanks, though!

  7. I’ve seen a website… It looks very exciting and beautiful. Info@email isn’t working yet, though, and no mention here, so I’m assuming non-live status.
    It does look awesome, though!

  8. Your photo of the roses reminds me of a “see only the good” blog that someone has out there. I never noticed before the way red roses fade to gold or how the texture is almost like fabric.
So then I clicked on your science project link, and read “So an elephant radiates and loses less energy per gram than a mouse and thus requires less replacement energy per gram.” Now this reminds me of my objective for the week of going back to Weight Watchers. 🙂

  9. Oh, I think I know what it is…. 3 bouquets, mammals, cells….hmmmm… growing things slowly. 🙂
Could it be? Maybe I am just reading too much into it!

  10. Hey Heather,
If you cut your roses underwater (standing water) at an angle before putting them into a vase with 1/2 water and 1/2 can of sprite, they’ll live for at least 7 days. I used to work for a floral shop so thought I’d pass on what little bit I know. My mom swears by the penny thing too.
Excited to see what comes next too.

  11. Can’t wait to see the new projects. I hope one of them is your pear pincushion pattern! Hint-hint.
Even the wilted flowers look good on your blog.

  12. Good luck with it all! Can’t wait till we’re finally allowed to see it! Hang in there, and buy yourself some more life-friendly flowers! *B

  13. Hi Heather! Beautiful blog that you have here!
I saw your tutorial on fabric yo yos…do you know any place that I can find ideas on what to do with them? I bought a whole mess of vintage yo yos at a garage sale recently. Thanks!

  14. Heather,
I went out today and got the Sew News Holiday magazine so that I could see your project. I really like it; it’s the best thing in the magazine. What did you think of the gingerbresd boy with half a head? More like a Halloween project if you ask me!

  15. Hi Heather, sorry if this has been covered before, but what camera do you use? I’m sure it’s some nifty mega-expensive model, but I’d love to know anyway. Your photos are beautiful and such an inspiration. :0)

  16. Okay, I was waiting patiently until you posted this. Now it’s not so patient. I’ll be stalking, I mean frequenting your site to see what’s coming. 🙂

  17. Yup, I’ve been singing that song for 4 days now.
I think your dead roses are actually quite beautiful (at least they were when the pic was taken!).

  18. I thought my mother was the only woman that felt that way about flowers. After years of buying her flowers, she finally revealed to me that she really doesn’t like getting them because she gets really sad when they wilt.
I wish I could get her to change her mind. At least I can, now, tell her she’s not alone.
Oh, and she keeps the dead flowers in the vase as long as possible. LOL

  20. Hi there,
I like to take dried out, dead headed roses and place them in a clear bowl or jar to display them.
Love your blog. Thank-you for sharing your great ideas.
    Blessings,
    Heather C.

  21. Love the flowers photo. I think it definitely captures *something* about the fleeting beauty of a bouquet. I’m looking forward to the pattern also! ~jen~
