12:10 to Bed

Halloweenmagic
One more Halloween photo — If you could capture true magic on film, I expect it would look something like this. This is Charlotte "poofting" me into a pink frog. She’s been poofting cars into carriages, toys into cakes and balloons into horses.  Today she "poofted Daddy into a kingdom" (king).  Ribbit.

I went on a date with my mom tonight.  We tooled around some new
boutiques in town, then went to see 3:10 to Yuma, which was excellent!
I love when a story ties every wandering thread into one tidy bow for
the ending.  It’s, well, magic when you realize, ""Yes, of course!

And Christian Bale.  What can I say?  Just go see it/him.

Hmmm.  Well, I didn’t intend to drift into a glowing movie
endorsement and then call it quits, but I’ve got the flu and was just
hit with a wave of fatigue.  Next post will be non-Halloweenish.  Or is
that non-Halloweenie?

(Did you know that Christian Bale starred in Empire of the Sun (amazing movie) and Newsies as a kid?  I didn’t realize that until tonight.)

  1. Yep – Empire of the Sun has always been in my top five favorite movies (“Cadillac of the sky!”) and Newsies is just pure fun – I reviewed that one for my high school newspaper. I’ve had a crush on Christian Bale since 1987.
    🙂
The picture (and costume) is AMAZING!

  2. Did you know Empire of the Sun is based on an autobiography? Maybe that’s what makes it so good, because the real stories of our lives are so interesting… which is why this blog is so compelling! True stories, the daily stuff, family magic… love it!

  3. Oh yes… Newsies! After I got the soundtrack, me and my friends would act it out on the trampoline and force our parents to watch. I know every single word to every single song.
And it’s the reason I watch every single Christian Bale movie.

  4. Did you know he was also in Little Women (the one with Winona Ryder) as Laurie? And Jack Black is in it too. Really.
My girls aren’t allowed to have crushes but they’re definitely trying to have a crush on Christian Bale.
I’m sorry you got this nasty flu! It’s still making the rounds here. But I lost 2 pounds because of it (bright side).

  5. That picture is wonderful. To me, it looks almost like a princesss turning into a mermaid. On the left side you can see the skirt, lighter colors, and it almost looks like a white crown above her head. Then on the right, you have the darker blue/teal shades, the tail, and a very blue crown.

  6. Thanks for posting this pic of Charlotte. This is gorgeous. I love the way the colors all play off of each other.
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Hope you will feel better soon.

  7. Oh I swear I thought I was the only person to see 3:10 to Yuma. LOL! It was awesome, wasn’t it? I’m a sucker for a modern western and an unexpected ending. I didn’t think I’d buy Christian Bale in a western but he was pretty darn good!

  8. Hi Heather! My name is Jayci and I’m fascinated by your blog! So here I am commenting because you brought up a favorite movie of mine: Empire of the Sun. No one has seen that, so I’m THRILLED that you brought it up. And until now I never realized that was young Christian. :o) Thanks for the info. Also, I’m about to start making yo-yos this week (I never knew that was what they were called!). So you may see me back here to ask some questions. ta ta

  9. Hi Heather,
I am a huge Christian Bale fan! I have Little Women on dvd and we have watched it about 10 times. He is fantastic and so, so cute! I think he is Welsh, isnt he?
    Annie

  10. Beautiful pic! :o)
I’m on the Christian Bale bandwagon too. My infatuation also began with Little Women. Has anyone seen Reign of Fire? It has 3 of my faves in it. Christian, Matthew McConaughey and a little known at the time Gerard Butler(Um Phantom…Leonidas…shall I go on? :oP).

  11. I am 28 and own a copy of Newsies. It’s great for sick days or to have on while I’m doing other stuff. Plus, there is Christian Bale – my first ever celebrity crush.

  12. I loved Newsises — I think I even caught it semi-recently (within the last six months) on the Disney channel — thought he was “cute” then, now…yumm!
Magic is right about the picture — oh to be the age where getting dizzy is just fun and doesn’t come with the urge to fall over!

  13. Hi Heather,
A google search quite randomly led me to your sexy halter apron and I WANT TO MAKE ONE!!!! It’s so awesome! Is the pattern available anywhere?

  14. You are a genius. The mermaid costume is certainly magical! I want to make one but I don’t have any girls! Maybe I’ll find out in two weeks if #3 is a girl and I can make it in 3-4 years. You must write instructions for those of us who are less genius!

  15. The kid from Empire of the Sun? Wow! I loved that movie! Think I will go look for it on DVD and see if I can find the autobiography Rachael mentioned in a comment above.
Hubby and I finally made time to go see American Gangster last week…the first movie we have seen (on the big screen) in our four years of marriage! That is terrible how we did not make this a bigger priority!
I blogged a few days back about the magic of going to the movies together, holding hands, etc.
Enjoying catching up with your blog, Heather! Looking forward to seeing that next fabric line!
    Fondly,
    Penny
