Two? We’re Such Softies

Puppies4_2

Back in town again.  Went to pick out our puppy this week &
really couldn’t decide between our favorite two.  We took them both
home for the night & still couldn’t decide.  Sheez.  So it looks like we’re going to have two dogs now.  One girl,
one boy.  We’re still in the naming cloud.

They’re cute, no?

  1. Oh, you ARE suckers! But they are adorable!! And it’s the perfect kid to dog ratio, so who can blame you?
I vote for Geoge and Gracie (Burns and Allen). 🙂 Not that I get a vote….

  2. Way to go! They are just like chips you can’t just stop at one!
    Name them Ruffles and Pringles!
    Farmgirl “Mindy”

  3. You are smart to take both. When we picked out Buck, he had an almost-twin that we talked ourselves out of taking home, and now are kicking ourselves for not getting both.

  4. They really are cute and I think your fate was sealed the minute you took the 2 of them home ;o)
How about Salt and Pepper – they are the right colourings after all!

  5. Oh goodness are thy cute! I love them! This story reminds me of someone who bought a bunny and a kitten in the same weekend! (It’s me shh don’t tell ) 🙂
    -Lorajean

  6. The children or the dogs? Don’t have to answer that, they are all cute!!!!
    Peanut Butter and Jelly?
    pretty silly!!

  7. oh my goodness, they are sooo cute! How exciting and fun. By the way, I heard that is the most intelligent dog breed. (I think)

  8. They’re all cute! I bet you’ll have some very funny posts following the adoption of your two newest family members. My husband and I came across the same problem with our Jack Russell Terriers. So, now we have Eli and Ginger (brother and sister) and they are a ton of fun!
I bet pickles and pepper would be good names!

  9. they’re so cute!!! For the girl I like Mel (it means honey in Catalan, the language spoken in Catalonia, Spain). So poetic I think.
For the boy… hmmm a name I like a lot is Thor, a scandinavian god.

  10. Your children look so happy, you were never going to take any puppy back!!!
How about Loula and Pato for names?

  11. Your children look so happy, you were never going to take any puppy back!!!
How about Loula and Pato for names?

  12. They’re very cute…both the kids and the puppies. I’ve found that they do better in pairs. We have two Chihuahua’s. The only thing I don’t like is double vet bills.
They’re miniature Schnauzers, right? I’m liking Schnitzel and no, no….it’s a boy and a girl? Hansel & Gretel.
    – Suzanne, the Farmer’s Wife

  13. They are adorable! My aunt has two miniature schnauzers and they are best buds. And two dogs are always cuter than just one! Congrats!

  14. Hm- same thing happened to us. We ended up with two sisters, though. Here we are a year later- we couldn’t be happier. They have a bond we couldn’t have anticipated (and as such, I recommend socializing them separately when they’re little), and they keep each other company whenever we’re not home. The mess doesn’t add up, though- it multiplies!

  15. Ok this is German and adorable…don’t know if anyone else suggested. But since you have 2 now, a boy and a girl: Hansel and Gretel!!!

  16. Oh, what lovable parents you are! The children look so delighted! I think Butch and Tilda would be nice names. Looking forward to hear what they will be called.

  17. They are too cute. I had schnauzers growing up. Very spunky. How about Hillary & Barack? Just kidding.

  18. Oh no! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders (besides the whole land-war in Asia thing)! Why get one when two are twice as cute??!
I’m laughing at the Hillary and Barack suggestion! Really, do you want them at each others throats all the time?
I can’t wait to meet them (I’m not going to show this to the kids or they’ll be knocking on your door in 5 minutes)!!

  19. I agree with everyone else…they are just too cute! I was thinking they look like Hansel & Gretel. Then I noticed someone else had the same idea! I think it would fit your new additions quite nicely.

  20. Oh my gosh! They are SO cute! How COULD you decide. I would definitely end up with both of them because after bringing them home for one night there would be no giving them up 🙂 Congratulations!

  21. We had a puppy last month for 2 days (a weimaraner in the city was too much so she went back home)…BUT she had a German name:
    Uli (ooh-lee)
    so cute.

  22. how about Ruby and Max (cute childrens books and tv show about a brother and sister that are cute bunnies)

  23. I had a doberman mix named Gretchen growing up (means ). But the meter man stole her from the backyard (90% certain).Don’t know the boy equivelant.
I bought some trash ties from you at a party at Laura’s a few years ago. Love those things.

  24. Heather,
You were a goner when you brought them both home. At least I would be, how could anyone give up a cute puppy after cuddling with them for a while.

  25. I did the same thing for christmas for my three kids. I have been happy with the 2 puppy thing. Yes it is 2 times the poop and pee, but they don’t seem to get as lonely.

  26. O M G: both look so precious, I would have taken them both, too. We’re thinking of getting a doggie girlfriend for our little schnauzeroo but want a human baby, too. Thinking then that second puppy should wait…

  27. Ah too sweet…those little faces…who could resist! We have a little Schnauzie named Luka…but I have thought that if I ever get another one I would call him Henry…a perfect little old man name for little pup with a bushy beard and eyebrows…
enjoy the puppy antics and silly behaviour…pretty soon they will be all grown up…
    {Henry & Greta} Too too cute!
    How fun!
    K

  28. I am so glad you took both – 2 is definitely better for pups. I have 4 in total with 2 15 year old girls and 2 mini schnauzers and while it is hard with the puppy training, I think it is so worth it to have the sets. Plus with mine they tattle on each other … like my little ‘Sophie Houdini’just escaped from the yard again and Sebastian let me know right away!

  29. They are adorable! You scared me at first – I’ve heard you should never get two female dogs from the same litter (dominance issues or something), but I think you are safe with a boy & a girl. When we are ready for a dog in a year or three (:)) we are definitely looking at that breed!
    Alyson

  30. I’m a two-dog person. Dogs do much better in two’s, they use each other’s energy, and they calm each other better than one can. And, they need less emotional energy from you. I definitely think two (or three!) are better than one.
Names? My two are Lhasa Apsos and are named Lancelot and Guinevere! That gets attention!
Have a great time with them!

  31. Congrats – I have recently become the proud owner of miniature schnauzer, called Bebe, and they are wonderful! A couple of names I really like are Diesel (for boy) & Sonny (after sunshine)…. enjoy the new members of your family!

  32. Georgeous dogs…I couldn’t help laughing when I read that you took them both ;0)
(We just got a puppie too – he is called Otto!)

  33. Hi. I just wanted to let you know that two dogs are better than one. They don’t cause as much trouble because they entertain each other. Happy parenting! Cherrie

  34. wow! too cute! my husband and i rescued a puppy from a rescue nearly 8 months ago, and we probably should have gotten one more too (although never ever would i be able to handle two pups, i have enough trouble with one hyperactive dog!) but it’s great because now your dogs will have a playmate and have tons of fun!
can’t really think of any cute names off bat, but when we were trying to rescue a girl puppy we thought about naming her lilo…so you could do lilo and stitch!

  35. How about Giselle and Leo? I love Hansel and Gretel, too. Aldous and Ada? Bruno and Gerta? Claus and Delia? Milo and Matilda? I know these are all names…but German ones. Okay, I will stop now. I could go on forever.

  36. Love both the photos so cute! OK so I went a little over board with the names but it was fun thinking of them so in no order here they are
    Velcro and Zipper
    Coats and Clark
    Buttons and Bobbin
    Snap and Flash
    Singer and Clover
    June and Tailor
    This and That
    Gauge and Guide
    Cotton and Bolt
    Marshmallow and Pie
    Pounce
    YO YO
    Floss
    Stitches
    Rickrack
    Spools
have fun with you new little guys.

  37. So cute! We went to buy one Shih Tzu and decided we needed two even before they were born. We picked out two boys from different litters and it was the best thing we ever did as they are BEST buddies!

  38. They are just darling, and well, if you are going to have one, you might as well have two. They will entertain eachother – and all of you as well!
    here’s a big “good luck x2”
    Mary

  39. Heather,
We had the same problem when we went to pick out our collie! You can tell what suckers we are… now we have two sweet brothers named Bo and Blayde! Two isn’t so bad after all!!
Elijah and Charlotte look so happy… how about “Bogie” and “Bacall”? ::smile::
    the Long Ladies

  40. So sweet! Such nice parents. My eldest has been asking for a cat or a dog so I got him a fish. He isn’t very impressed, but loves his pet anyway.
I like Hansel and Gretel. If I had a couple of dogs to name though, they would be Stan and Gertie. Don’t those sound funny?
Or you could name one Surprise… could you imagine being at the dog park and yelling, “Surprise! Surprise!” Ha!

  41. I think they do much better in pairs too. My SIL has 2 Schnauzers and they play so wonderfully together. Even though our Schnauzer has a whole household of human playmates, she gets lonely. When she sees other dogs, she nearly attacks them she wants to play so desperately. I will say I sure wouldn’t want the double vet bills, double grooming bills, double meds bills, or double the feed bills. I never realized how much a house dog DID cost until we got ours 14 months ago!
I am still stuck on that name Bobbin. What about Bobbin and Boo?

  42. Fantastic find. I miss my childhood minature named Sabrina.
How about the names Tie and Scrunchie?
Have fun, and congratulations on the “fur-children”.

  43. Even though two puppies is a lot of work it is defintely a great idea – they will grow up together and be able to keep themselves entertained!
    Karla

  44. Liesel and Rolf (from the Sound of Music).
Not sure if I already posted this, but I had a black schnauzer (with uncropped ears, just like yours!) growing up named Greta and she was the most wonderful dog. I also met a cute one who looked just like her the other day named Samson. Whatever names you pick, you’ve got two wonderful new family members!

  45. They are so cute…you have to keep them both!
Lots of great suggestions..here are a few more “pairs”
    …Anton & Anika, Fritz & Flora, Gunther & Gretchen, Ingo & Ilsa, Sigi & Sascha, Theo & Tinka…

  46. precious! precious! both of them!
i know if i had gone to pick up our new little puppy (we had already picked her out) my heart would have melted for more than one! i am at a loss for names. my hubby named ours…LuLu. she’s the latest entry on my blog if you want to share puppy pics! congrats on the new fur babies!

  47. They are too Cute!!! Button and Bobbin
Dill and Pickel, Piper and Bucket, Mickey and Minnie – Oh the names just keep coming –
Have fun with your new additions and which ever names you pick, will be just perfect for you.

  48. with faces like that – how could you choose just one!! good luck with the potty training!!! Cute cute puppies with some cute kids, too! 🙂

  49. Our friends have two Schnauzers too but they are both girls, Rosie and Isabella. They are such sweet girls! 🙂 I like the name Leela too. Sorry not so good at boy names, we named our little beagle girl Popper because her litter sisters were Snap, Crackle, and she was the Pop!

  50. So sweet. Reminds me of our family. Ten years ago my husband and I got 2 miniature schnauzers (Charlie and Daisy). They were our first babies and they always had eachother as a companion. We’ve had 3 children since, and they’re a good breed if you have kids. Playful and good watch dogs. You have a lot of fun times ahead!

  51. How about Pogo for the girl and Choppers for the boy. Very cute pups. Adorable kids too! big hug, Deborah
I like Sophie and Tiger too. Or Sugar and Snail (what are little girls/boys made of)…lol
enough play, off to work for me. have a good day!

  52. these puppies are adorable. we have a 3 yr old giant schnauzer. he is 100 lbs and super smart! we miss all that puppy goodness. have fun!

  53. I lost my sweetie Schnauzer, Socks, last year. She had an enlarged heart due to being overweight and we couldn’t let her suffer anymore.
Socks was the best, most loyal animal ever!!
She would inspect every person that came through our door, she was patient with little children and she even worked well with cats. She was my best friend and she always knew how to make a bad day turn into a great day.
Right now, I have bunnies, so I can’t have a dog yet, but when we are ready, I would love to get another Schnauzer.

  54. Puppy love! So cute. I thought Hansel & Gretal would be great names too. Wrong country but what do you think of Wolfie & Stanzie?

  55. None of my business–, BUT It is VERY difficult to train two puppies. They tend to bond to one another, not their “human”.
    Think about it….really.

  56. Ackkk so sweet! Name game is hard. Have fun with the cutest puppies I’ve seen in a while. We just got a puppy he’s a mix rottweiler & lab. He looked like a little bear cub to me so the name became his. Enjoy those sweet faces.

  57. We picked up our new puppy on Saturday evening!! She’s smart and funny and very good. We named her Rubyrose Petunia, after weeks of trying to decide. 🙂 Your new babies are adorable! samm

  58. Hi Heather,
I don’t know you but, I read your blog and I just had to comment today. We have a Mini Schnauzer, Kirby, who is eight years old. He is just the best dog I could ever imagine. We chose a Schnauzer because my husband and son both suffer from allergies and I wanted a breed that does not shed.
He has been great on both counts.
He is such a caretaker — he will not leave the side of anyone in the family who is sick or even feeling a little blue. What a sweet, sweet guy he is! You will never regret adopting them both. Wishing you many fun years with your new little friends!

  59. I vote for Gideon, and Grace or Gracie. Our kids first letters are the same an dI think it’s cute that way.
Plus Gideon means great warrior, and even though he’s a mini, he can still be a great guard dog ;), and Grace means grace of God, so she will be a graceful soul to love and treat your kids tenderly. Both names fit the personalities for a boy and girl.

  60. They are so so so so cute!!! I still say schnitzel is a great name for a german dog. You can name the other noodles and you’ll have schnitzel with noodles!!! HA! Ok, I’ve been on a Sound of Music kick lately, sorry.

  61. I really liked one of your first name ideas: Bobbin! Sticking to fabric terms:
    Tuck and Bobbin
    Indigo and Bobbin
    Flax and Bobbin
    Dobby and Bobbin
    Zig and Zag?
    Spin and Bobbin?
    Corduroy and Bobbin
    Rafia (Rafi) and Sisal
    Spindle and Bobbin
    Bobbin and Whorl
    Bobbin and Windle
    Hank and Bobbin
Gin and Bobbin (gin as in cotton gin?)
    photo terms:
    Flash and Dauguerre
    Flash and Aperture
    “sew and sew” 😉

  62. O Heather, this is too funny…..they are sooooo cute! Looks like you both have won the parent of the year award! I see two VERY happy children with two very adorable puppys:)
I just saved two dogs a month ago from living on the streets. They where so happy with us that they surprised us with two very cute puppies…lol With the two we already had we now have six dogs!!! One big happy family over her in glendale, Arizona….I will put new pics of them on my blog soon…so,if you know of anyone who wants a little cutie!

  63. beautiful beautiful dogs.
we have two at home for similar reasons, so I had to comment. We had one, then just had to get another. They’re just too cute!
They really are perfect for allergy sufferers and they are wonderful snugglers.
Just be prepared for lots of training and barking control.

  64. They are toooooo cute! I would have kept both of them too. I love the names Boris and Britta for the German dogs. I worked with a girl that was from Germany and loved her name Britta.

  65. i had two Miniature Pinschers girl and boy and i named them Tina & Turner. we had tons of laughs and comments when people hear us calling them!

  66. Our hearts were stolen by two miniature Schnauzer littermates – their names are Weiner and Schnitzel.

  67. Yay! I don’t think two dogs are that much more work than 1 dog. And they will keep each other company. Congrats on the addition to your family! So cute…

  68. Two dogs are better than one anyhow. Now they won’t ever get lonely when by themselves, and there’s nothing more enjoyable than watching 2 dogs play-fight!
What about Frick and Frack for names?

  69. These puppies really need a name, it’s a few days and you can only call them “Puppy Girl” and “Puppy Boy” for so long.
Color names- (Come on people pull out your paint swatches, I’m sure there is something original)
    Pewter and Sterling
    Smoke and Pearl (too common?)
    Food names-
    Schillings and McCormick(Salt&Pepper theme)
    Pringles and Ruffles
Dorito and Frito (you can’t just have one!)
    Fabric names-
    Plaid and Paisley
    Tweed and Tartan
    (Refer to several previous posts)
    Smart/Clever names-
    Einstien and Edison
    Rubik and Puzzle
    Tetris and Sudoku
    Sweet names-
    Trinket and Treasure
    Puppet (great single dog name)
    Pocket
    Dance names-
    Salsa and Tango
    Can-Can and Rumba
    Famous pairs-
Donnie and Marie (I know no people names, just too good to resist!)
    Peanut Butter and Jelly
Heather do you or the kids have any other themes in mind? Do you want names that go together?
Sorry so long, I have a thing with naming animals. I love naming them, but it has to be the perfect name and I can’t move on until the perfect name is found. I know it’s silly, but it’s me!
    Farmgirl “Mindy”

  70. Giggles and Tickle
    Bangle and Charm
    Bling and Fancy
It’s a sickness! Names are important! Please name them soon, so I can stop thinking. 😉
    Farmgirl “Mindy”

  71. i’m all for food related, and I’m sure you have more suggestions than you know what to do with. I think Butter and Pickles are too cute. They’re on my list of future dog names. along with Frijol (bean in spanish). I’m sure your kids will come up with their own ideas, though!

  72. You will LOVE having two! I grew up always have mini schnauzers (4 total) and we always had them two at a time! They are wonderful dogs! What a fun addition to your family!

  73. How about (and I’m so not sure on the spelling here) Snickle and Fritz? (Not sure if Snickle is really a girls name, but I thought I’d throw my two cents in…)

  74. Well Done coming home with both pups… Way Cute the pair of them & your children look as if All their Xmas’s have come @ once!!! Really Liking the “Bonnie & Clyde” suggestion… Conjures up Mischief!

  75. Hi!!
How about Pippin (girl) and Snoops (boy). That was the first thought that popped into my head when I looked at them!!
(I didnt read all the posts so dont know if someone said those already!! lol)

  76. Oh My! Too too adorable. We have a puppy, Boo. We got her from a neighbor that had puppies (well, his dog had puppies). We couldn’t decide, but finally decided on the only girl. Just yesterday, we were saying we wish we had one of her brothers too.
I think it’s great to have two – they will be pals for life.
    :0)
(of course, Boo does have the other 3 dogs to play with, but that’s a whole ‘nother story..)

  77. TWO?? My mini schnauzer gives them two paws up. All four of them look perfectly happy and adorable! I love ‘George & Gracie’, but the only German connection would be the letter ‘G’. Best of luck with choosing names and getting through the puppy stage — it’s a darn good thing they’re so cute!

  78. Sweet little puppies. If Schnauzers really are hypo-allergenic I’d love to know. My vote for names: Mitzie and Fritzie…a memory and salute to two full-size Dachshunds owned by a childhood friend.
    Cheers Linda T

  79. Two is definately better than one, they are adorable, I’m jealous…
I think Cricket is the perfect name for a dog and I cant wait to get one so I can name him Cricket. Don’t know what goes with it, maybe Muppet

  80. OK so they are some of the cutest I have ever seen! Kiss them for me. >muah< I vote for names like... Sugar and Spice Fritz & Freida Fraeulein & Meister (Miss & Master) Hansel & Gretel are cute too! Enjoy them and the many many smiles they will bring to your family. Also remember those smiles as you are working on house breaking them!

  81. What about Max and Marta? Get a little “Sound of Music” action going on 🙂 They are absolutley adorable.

  82. These pictures are so great. I had to show them to my husband too. We have a miniature schnauzer that we got when he was about 2, now I think we want to get little puppies, but I’m sure our current “puppy” would be very jealous!

  83. Oh, so cute!!! Keep them both, I’d say!! 😉
I vote for Haensel and Gretel, too!! Or Max and Moritz, two other German literary characters from the children’s stories by Wilhem Busch… they have nothing but nonsense in mind, but are two boys… Max could be Maxine, though!

  84. I know some people don’t like people names for dogs. How about Pablo and Tina? I like how they sound together. Just my .02

  85. I see you have a bazillion comments here but … I still feel the desire to pipe up!
My parents have a mini shcnauzer named Schnitzel. When he is in trouble or hasn’t been groomed in sometime he is called Bob. Both names seem to fit him.
I do add my vote to Hansel and Grettel.

  86. I’ve always loved the name Trixie for a girl doggie..but I just got a boy – Pemb. Welsh Corgi – and we named him Ollie ^..^
