The Princess and the Pie

What a wonderful week!  We didn’t work at all, but played, played,
cooked, ate & played some more.  My parents came over twice with
their Canasta cards.  Dad & I make a formidable team.  My brother, Ryan, brought over Rock Band. I killed my first two songs, ‘I’m So Sick" & "Psycho Killer."
At least ‘the band’ told me so, but they might have just been wooing me
to stick around.  Which I did, playing the guitar & the base guitar
as well (I avoided the drums – those looked impossible).  There were
movies mixed in and one trip to the gym with Rachel.  Turkey-roasting,
pie-making, table-decorating, good-food-eating, nephew-squeezing.  A
memorable Thanksgiving vacation.

I ended up skipping the tablecloth project
for 5 more hours of playtime, but did have fun with the folding-chair
covers.  I arranged leaves from disassembled fall garlands onto each
chair back & stapled them (shh) to the copper slip covers.  The
centerpiece is a large pile of the silk leaves, ready for raking. You
can’t see the leaf pile too well in my photos, but it was a fun touch.
I’m nostalgic for leaf piles as I haven’t had fall leaves in my yard
since I was a young girl.  I used to splash them about and make a big
mess of my parents’ yard-keeping efforts.  We had some great backyards
when I was little. One house had a stream in the backyard and a huge
vegetable garden.  One had a ravine, a hammock in the trees, and wild
daffodils.

I’m planning a trip to PA next spring.  I’m considering adding a couple of days onto the trip to explore my childhood neighborhoods there.  We lived in OH for a while too.

We’re back in swing today.  The furniture is freshly re-arranged from the carpet incident,
the house is clean, the refrigerator is full, and the air smells of
cinnamon pine cones.  Though I’m in the thick of designing my next
collections, we’re excited to fully participate in the holidays this
year.  Last year was a crazy, worky blur.  We’re not doing that again.

  1. Wow the table looked amazing. It’s always nice to wind down a bit after Thanksgiving~ I too enjoy a clean house just before the tree comes in. Just take it easy and tell x-mas to s l o W down. 😉 ~susie

  2. Rock Band is sooo much fun! I am the singer in our band. I love I’m So Sick, but it can be a hard one to sing. Not too into Psycho Killer, though.
    You’re decor is incredible!

  3. Oh…I forgot to mention the pile of Heather Bailey Bijoux prints waiting in my cupboard. They’re just crying out to be utilized. I’ve been so excited about it that I just can’t bear to cut into it yet. It’s waiting for the perfect project.

  4. I remember one particular stretch of power outages during the winter of ’94, I think it was, where my future husband and future mother-in-law played WAY too much canasta. I didn’t know anyone else played this any more! Baileys rock! 🙂

  5. love your table, it looks amazing. I have been so burnt out this year that I have downsized many decor and parties, I wanted more time for the family to hang instead. Although I have been crafting a bit for my fellow bloggers!

  6. Love the table, and frankly am glad to read that you didn’t get the new tablecloth and chair pads done, seriously I was feeling like a slacker when I read that! Wendesday night my dhild heard me whining about all I had to do, and then I had to throw in… “and Heather is even making a new tablecloth and chair pads… I fail!” Your table is quite beautiful, and although mine was not as festive as in past years, the food was to die for

  7. I love your chair-backs!

I’ve been through some difficult times recently and the colors and creativity on your site have been at times healing to me. Thank you for sharing your gifts, you have helped me to believe that I have something to give as well.

  10. If you do make a visit to PA in the spring, will you be doing a trunk show or something at a local quilt shop? I’d love to meet you! I live within an hour of West Chester!

  15. Oh wow – this looks fantastic, at the moment we are perched on a old table with hairs held together with screw and glue on a partially tiled floor, which is already starting to crack, thank goodness we are going to friends for Christmas!

  16. If you like leaves then you’d love my backyard! This was the first year I didn’t get mine raked and it wouldn’t surprise me if my neighbors hate me!
