Red, Green & Golden Delicious

Applesm
Wait a minute.  I haven’t ever shown the apple pincushion that comes in the Fresh Picked Pincushions sewing pattern.  What’s up with that?  The apple is certainly worthy of the pincushion parade that tromped through my blog last summer.

Look, here’s a mob of spirited green apples having a parade of their
own. Carrying their champion on their shoulders, they chant "Teacher oh
so bright & lofty, here’s an apple, sweet & softy," "Apple,
Granny, sweet & tart, thanks for making me so smart," and
"Macintosh, Gravenstein, Gra-nny Smith, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd
grade, fifth!"  Sounds like they’re suggesting sewn apples as holiday teacher gifts this year.  I’m thinking I agree with the apples (though they could certainly use some slogan suggestions.)

Maybe something more scholastic:  "How many apples make a pi(e)? Three point one four — one five!"

Oh my, there goes one rowdy fellow shouting, "Apples are red, apples are green, here’s my gift, although you’re mean."  What a rotten thing to say.

I could go on, but one more bad slogan might spoil the bunch.

  1. Oh Love it! Always need a good teacher gift and since I just received a note from my sons first grade teacher requesting that none of the parents give her any sweets or things to eat this year that she is trying to watch her weight (couldn’t decide if this was commendable… or tacky! Lol) this would surely be a healthy alternative. Thanks 🙂

  2. great pincushions Heather, seems like some teachers are going to be happy. I am taking the easy route and grabbing some of my stuff that other manufacturers made from my designs. I am overloaded with work this week so maybe just a handmade ornament this year!
Funny slogans, I am sure they would like that too!

  3. Hmmm. I don’t think it’s apple cider you’re drinking. Whatever it is have you got any for the rest of the class? :)~

  4. H,
That was hysterical! You’re very clever! Thank you – I needed a chuckle today. And that pin cushion is beyond adorable. 🙂

  5. darling apple; I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a pincushion I didn’t like (and i don’t even know how to sew–its on my to-do list), but your fabric makes it over the top cute!! You are pretty good at the rhymes too!

  6. Cool! I love it! I copied your pear idea a year ago before the pattern was available, so soon I hope to actually follow your pattern for this adorable apple. A whole world of fruit out there….I wonder if there would be a way to make a pineapple pincushion? Like do some kind of smocking technique to make the pineapple pattern…mmmmm….thank you for the inspiring pincushions!

  7. These pincushions are so cute! I was wondering if you would take a picture of your Christmas tree to show us. I can just imagine how beautiful and inspiring it is.

  8. Love everything on your blog!! Could you share the info of where you found the darling pins ON the pincushion. They are fantastic, too!

  9. I can’t wait to get the pattern. I haven’t done much sewing but this has driven me to do it. I am thinking of doing several different fruits and putting them in a bowl on my coffee table. That will make a great spring look! Now that I think about it I could do them in different patterns of fabric for the different seasons!
    Thanks for the great inspiration!

  10. hey,

  11. they’re actually pretty good slogans, hahaha.
the pincushion is absolutely adorable, as the pins in it. i don’t think i ever had so pretty ones.

  12. I don’t know why I didn’t order this pattern earlier but the last day of preschool is Thursday. I don’t suppose there’s any chance you can e-mail a digital pattern file if I get one now? Just thought I’d try.

  13. WAY cute! I have this darling pattern and can’t wait to make it, but it would look SOOO much cuter with those great pins on it!! Where did you get those? I can’t seem to find a source for them anywhere. Do share, do share!

  14. How darling is that?! Please, please tell me where you got the pins! I’m always on the search for new ones and those are so fabulous!

  15. How darling is that?! Please, please tell me where you got the pins! I’m always on the search for new ones and those are so fabulous!

  16. That is so funny! I was thinking the same thing and did just that and made your darling little apples as gifts for my girls to give their teachers. I hadn’t even seen your blog until just now but of course as everyone can see it is the perfect gift. The teachers were so excited to get them. Now to make myself one! HEE HEE!!

  17. To the teacher that said you’re tired of apple themed gifts – that is very ungrateful. I am a SAHM and we have limited money yet get a list of what each teacher would like/dislike for gifts each year at Christmas, birthday and other “special days”. I find this very presumptuous. I have thought about how I would handle it if I had to fill out a sheet like that were I a teacher and I would simply skip the list filling out and say, if God puts it on your heart to give something to me, thank you very much. And then I would be most appreciative to get the gift. After all – it is a gift – your are already getting paid to teach whereas SAHM moms who give the gifts don’t receive gifts or pay for staying at home.
That said, I think these apples make a GREAT gift and I would love to receive them. What a thoughful, heartfelt gift this would be. I too love the pins and would love to know where to get them. With all the compliments, let us know if you decide to carry them on your site (:
