To
tap things off
this month, I started my dance class.  I'm on tap of the
world, the tap dog, at the tap of my class, tap o' the mornin' to ya…
tap that one.  Good grief.

What a great leg-workout, and hokey
and fun to boot.  Imagine stomping about on a wooden floor to a song
called Carrot Stew, a dance that conjures picnic plaids, poofy skirts,
pantalettes, and pig tails.  Sure, I'll start with clogging, but I'll
need to add true tap dancing at some point if I'm to continue my
rappity-clackity-dancity-fantasy.

Watch Eleanor Powell go.  That ain't no clogging costume either.

It would be extra cool to mix tapping with swing dancing. Oh if I had nothing else to do than dance all day.

  1. well how fun is that! Enjoy yourself. its great to find something that promotes health and exercise, but you can have a good laugh while you are doing it 🙂 Go you!

  2. I can still do that neat little step she does right before the big ending! I get in my kitchen and start slow and move faster and faster and it sounds just like a train. My kids loved it when they were little. Now they look at me like I’m crazy.

  3. Fun!
Oh, I saw some of your fabric in the Martha Stewart Weddings yesterday…a fabric store owner marries a….musician? anyway your fabric is popular for weddings! Mabye a new niche market?!

  4. Oh! How lovely! I have been taking Irish step dancing classes for a few years now and it’s loads of fun. It is such good exercise that I actually look forward to!
    Enjoy!

  5. Heather, I love it . I clogged from the time I was 5 years old all the way through college at good ole Ricks college (sadly not that anymore). Anyhow I know its a great workout and I bet you look great doing it. Also, I just have to tell you that I just found out that my long time friend Lyric Payne knows you from when she lived in Arizona. HELLO!! I was so so excited when she told me she knew you. Anyhow, have a great day! Smiles, JEN

  6. Tapping is so much fun! I took tap for about three years and loved every second. Not sure why I stopped…time got tight I think.
Have fun! Keep those “falaps” even!

  7. Clogging’s the best! It’s so down-home American you can’t help but feel a little patriotic while you’re doing it!
By the way, thanks for this site. It’s such a yummy place to visit in the grey frigidness of winter.

  8. That was refreshing. I love seeing good old things like that. I miss tap class. Wasn’t ever very good, but I loved it.
By the way, my sister-in-law gave me a gift certificate to your store for Christmas! One of the most exciting gifts I got. now, if I can just decide what to spend it on!

  9. How FUN! I used to tap dance when I was a kid. Such great exercise and creativity. Have you ever seen the movie TAP? A great movie with some fabulous dancing! I think you would like. So jealous!

  10. I used to love watching old movies with song and tap dancing! I have done a bit of folk dancing, swing and ballet when I was younger, but never tap! Awesome that you are taking this up!

  11. Can’t believe you posted this today. Just yesterday I signed up to do 8 beginners classes for adults. I had been meaning to do it for years and after a change on jobs, my evenings are now free to start and tick off of my wish list of things to do.

  12. I tapped and danced my way from age 5 through college. I haven’t danced and I while, but man do I miss it! I love the Eleanor Powell video – especially the bit where she’s being so coy.

  13. Oh man, how I wished I still lived where you do so I could take that class with you! (the fact that its 20° here in Idaho helps too!) Really, it’s a life long dream of mine. I used to pretend that I could clog or tap and my friends used to make fun of me. Woo hoo for you!

  14. How fun! I was just this morning perusing Collage video and looking for a tap instructional one. It’s been oh, erm, 25+ years since my last pair of tap shoes?? But dang it looks like a fun way to raise my heart rate. 😀

  15. Have forwarded the You Tube clip to my 24 year old daughter who began dancing at the age of three & still takes classes when she can. Not sure how clogging differs from tap but I’m sure it will be a fun way to exercise and express yourself.

  16. I just noticed that you posted the quilt pattern I have been dying on getting my hands on!!!!!!!
Oh I cant thank you enough!!!!!

  17. Oh, a woman after my own heart! I loved tap dance when I was a kid, and I have wanted to take swing dancing lessons for sooo long now! That is the cutest tap-dancing video ever, by the way. Thank you for this inspiring post – maybe I’ll go find a dance studio 🙂

  18. Hi
I just discoverd your blog, I really love all the things you do, they all are so creative.
I also started dance clases recently although quite different, I learn flamenco, a typical spanish dance.
Can I ask you with wich camera you take your photos ?, the colors in them are sooooooo amazing, they really look alive.
    All the best from Spain

  19. Hi Heather, I’ve joined the blogging world… love your blog! It looks like your keeping yourself busy!!!!! The Sound of Music Tour sounds fun. I went on the Sound of Music tour in Salzburg and would love to go back. That drive up to the Eagles Nest is steep. I went on a rainy day and was scared the bus was going to slide off the mountain. 🙂 Your going to have a great time!
I also have a Charlotte! Great name. 🙂 Hope your doing good! Sherri
PS… your hobby (creative) room is to die for!!!!!

  20. Oh I’m so jealous! I have always wanted to learn to tap dance and as a kid had a pair of tap shoes that I would just wander around the house in, driving my mother crazy!
Perhaps it’s time to buy a big person sized pair of taps and start driving my husband crazy…?

  21. OMG, how awesome! That was a terrific video…I love those old dancing routines and I can imagine that would be so much fun to learn how to do…and boy, how your legs would be in shape from it! lol…I just had to comment on how much I love your blog design and your fabu store.

  22. Loved the video! I wonder now how old is TOO old to learn to tap dance? ‘Cuz it sure looks like fun! (goodbye, treadmill?)
Meanwhile, the hub and I started taking ballroom dance through our county rec program almost 10 years ago, and we swing dance most Saturday nights and do ballroom about once a month. It is date night, dress-up, exercise, fun, and endorphin-generating all rolled into one.
My M-i-L just celebrated her 90th birthday by throwing herself a a “Birthday Ball” for 60 people with live music, singer, dance floor, and even hired her dance teachers to perform and dance with everyone. It was really nice! She had not danced in many years but started again at age 85 when she moved to a senior community! It is her very favorite activity and she plans her time and energy-level around it.

  23. Hi Heather, I hope you enjoy the dancing. I just saw that your scrapmap tour through Bavaria will take you to Ruhpolding – my parents live there and the hotel you will be staying in (Zur Post), well, I had my wedding reception there. The owners are so nice & kind, so I think you and the group will thoroughly enjoy the trip. Ruhpolding is tiny though, only 6.500 inhabitants but the surroundings are beautiful. Okay, its still a few months to go before the trip but I wish you lots of fun and hope that you will like Bavaria and Salzburg of course.

  24. I have a friend who has been taking a tap dancing class for quite some time now. She loves it! She has tried to get me to do it too but I just can’t envision that. Would probobly do me a world of good by getting me into shape again. Knowing that you take a tap class too I may think on it more.;)
    Have a great day!
    ~salina

  25. WAW! I had no idea tap dancing was so difficult! I though of taking lessons when I was younger- seeing this I am glad I didn’t- hehe, don’t think I could anywhere close to her level:)
