Yay-Boo

We received the call this week.  Charlotte now has a spot in school-choice-#1
Tonight is meet-the-teacher night.  We have mixed feelings — as usual
— excitement and dread, all at once — to send our children off to
school for so many hours each day.  See, I really like my kids
and I want them around.  But, of course, without an education, they will
likely be 'around' for the next 50 years, so that won't work.

Today,
I'm wrapping up instructions for a new sewing pattern, only the
sweetest lunch bag ever.  I can't wait to share it.  Hopefully I'll have
photos by early next week and patterns in hand soon after.  I do have
back-to-school on my mind, don't I?  Of course, all of us here will be
toting our lunches to work in improved style as well.

Ooo, can't wait (clap, clap, clap).

  1. I used to feel like you…thinking I would desperately miss my daughter when she went off to kindergarten. And I did…for a week or two. Now we’re 2 months into summer vacation and I’m counting down the days until school starts again. 🙂 We humans are pretty good at adapting to change.

  2. It’s definitely bitter-sweet but less bitter if you’re happy with the school. I’m a fan of dark sunglasses on their first day back for the brisk walk back to the car 🙂

  3. Congrats… can’t wait to see the new pattern. Just got the elephant pattern last week. Looking forward to having time to dive into it. Maybe next week when “my” kids go back to school.

  4. Yay for Charlotte! I hope she’ll love it!
I’ve just been to the school-uniform shop and kitted my son out for his first year… Scary/sad/happy times…
Can’t wait to see the lunch bag!
    xx

  5. I saw you last night, as you were walking by the bathroom.. I was talking & should have come & said hi!
YOu’ll love the school! We sure do & the teachers are WONDERFUL!!!!
Monday is going to be a BIG day!

  6. Can I suggest homeschooling? Your children get a GREAT education and you aren’t shipping them off for so many valuable hours every day.

  7. School is a bitter sweet issue, for sure. Some days, I dread their leaving…some days, I jump for joy! What are the chances your new pattern includes a zipper top to keep my precious reusable containers and actual flatware (not plastic, yuck) from falling out????? I hate velcro. It never makes it through the year!

  8. My firstborn is leaving for kindergarten (is Charlotte in k too?!) And I have been planning to make his lunch bag for weeks! But I will wait for your pattern. Thanks! Oh, and I totally agree about the children being gone too many hours -don’t like it at all!!

  9. I kinda hate to venture into this discussion but…..I will. I homeschooled my children for 20 years. No regrets. All are in colleges of their choice. Gosh, I sure did love having those 4 kids around all the time! I understand how Heather feels about enjoying their companionship. They are still hanging around here every chance they get. Best friends forever =-). My husband and I really lucked out.

  10. Wow! I have been searching and searching for a cute lunchbag for myself….see I got a new job as a librarian and I have to have a cute lunchbag!! I’m having no luck……then…I read this post!!! I’m so excited!!! Thank you Heather!!!!

  11. Congrats to you and your daughter! My firstborn is off to kindergarten in a few weeks…yikes! I can’t believe she is growing up so quickly. Time flies, doesn’t it?
And a stylish lunch bag pattern?? Yay!!

  12. We’re meeting our teacher today as well. Here’s hopes that the new lunch bag pattern softens the back-to-school blow just a little! 🙂

  14. How lovely to hear that your daughter has been accepted at the school of your choice! I hope she will have a most wonderful teacher this year who will show her the joy of learning.
So looking forward to seeing your lunch bag pattern. It is sure to be wonderful, just like everything else you make.

  15. Can’t wait to see pics of the lunch bag. My son wants me to make his lunch bag this year, I’ve got 2 weeks to find a pattern and make it!
    Thanks!

  16. Homeschooling indeed! We love it because like you, I just could not stand the thought of sending my kids away all day every day – I love having them around! And the extra time we have together allows us to have a more creative, relaxed lifestyle. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

  17. What kind of flower is that above? I love it and I haven’t seen it before. I would love to plant that in my garden next year.
