Birthday Prep – Funfetti & Dragon Tag

FunfettiCakeMixT Today I'm wrapping up a Valentine's Day newsletter and a few lingering  projects, then I'm moving on to Charlotte's birthday cupcakes!  She's going for funfetti cake mix with vanilla pudding (Easy Gourmet Cupcakes recipe).  She wants the frosting to be "black and spooky," but tells me that a bat on top of each might do the trick.  I'll figure something out.  I can't go too goth.  The girl is only 6.

Oh, and Dragon Tag.  I have some quick "tails" to put together.  I say this with quotes, as I may only have time to tear strips of fabric.  We'll see.  Busy day!

  1. White frosting with black sprinkles or black designs might do the trick. The idea of eating black frosting does not sounds that appealing to me! 😉 Though the kids might enjoy the black tongues.

  2. I know I would enjoy the black tongue. My husband and I still have that kid-like tendency to love it when our food causes unnatural colors on the tongue.
You could probably pipe chocolate or chocolate frosting into bat shapes and let them dry for the topping.

  3. Happy Birthday to Miss Charlotte! I can’t believe she is 6!! I may have to try these cupcakes for Grace’s birthday. Hope you are all doing well! 🙂

  4. Um, for my son’s 9th birthday, I threw a spy party and for the cake we had a cake shaped like a bomb, with sparkler candles. Black frosting. Let me tell you…ALL the kids had green tongues, yes. But also they ALL had green urine for the next two days. Neon. I heard about it from every parent. Yipes.
    Stick to the black bats.

  5. Your daughter cracks me up. I have a great niece who is 10 who has the same kind attitude. FYI, Funfetti cake mixes make great cookies too – the recipe is on the side of the box.

  6. Great tip on Funfetti cookies. I’m going to give that a try. Seems like kids always go for the most colorful sweets (regardless of the flavor, hence the success of rainbow ice cream!).

  7. Thank you for sharing the “gourmet cupcakes” recipe — I made up 108 (!) mini cupcakes for our Valentine’s celebration at church last week. Between 12 adults and 36 kiddos, there wasn’t a single one left…and plenty of happy campers. *grin*
