Isaac is moving along on two mammoth work tables. Each one will sit on a large, rolling base so it will be counter-height for working, but can be lowered to table-height if needed. Here’s a great trick we use for drilling holes to the perfect depth. Wrap the drill bit in masking tape at the depth you wish each hole to be. Stop drilling when the edge of the tape meets the top of the surface. Works like a charm.

Yay! March of the Tools is back!
What a great tip! And a great blog too, I might add. Thanks Heather.
Good drill tip. Reads like a great work table too.
Looking forward to seeing the other tools featured during the “March”.
Enjoy the day.
w00t! w00t! March of the tools! : )
One of my dad’s favorite tricks! He was an awesome carpenter with all kinds ways to do things that they have fancy tools for these days. Good luck with the table. Sounds like it will be great.
Can’t wait to see the tables!
An old tried n true trick! I can’t wait until you show a little more of the NEW studio! You got me thinking about what color you’re going to paint those tables. I’m sure they will be awesome.
That is definitely a nifty trick. Most of the things I’ve drilled, we’ve wanted to drill all the way through but I’ll keep it in mind for other projects!
Neat trick, and I love the *making!*
Our family gets wildly excited about children making things!
What a great trick!!
