Meet Elsie

Isaac and I fantasize about refurbishing and redecorationg an old Airstream trailer. When we head out on family campouts, we often stop at dealerships on the way to peek in the windows of old trailers. Then, as we drive along, we discuss exactly how we would overhaul them in structure, decor, functionality, etc. Isaac has even talked about outfitting an Airstream as an on-site office, parked inside the studio.

Isaac and I may not ever fit this fantasy into our real lives, but look who did! Monique Willms of Pocket Full of Whimsy recently completed a colorful trailer rehab using fabric from my Pop Garden collection.

ElsieExterior470 Through brute-force labor, she and her husband tore apart a crusty old camper, then worked their magic to achieve cheerful results in turquoise and red — with pops of yellow.

They named the camper Elsie and catalog her adventures with the family in a call-out section of Monique’s blog. I don’t see how those kiddos can have anything but happy family memories, touring around in such color. Who has ever seen such a collection of bright, ebullient blankets in one space!?

I’m of the strong opinion that women should learn their power tools. Liberate yourself, ladies! Look what you can do.

ElsieTrailer2T_300Atta girl, Monique, for tackling a project of this magnitude — and completing it. I can only imagine how much work this was.

Give the girl some love.

  1. Horay for this interior! I love red and robin egg blue together and the fact that the stove is a lovely avacado green! Can I just live there? I’m really quiet, and I don’t take up a lot of space! Please, please, please!!! Also, the building in the picture of the girl with the miter saw is so great…I love that you can see the woodgrain through the red paint on some of the slats.

  2. Love! When I was a pre-teen and we’d spend extended period of time at grandma and grandpa’s house, the 3girl cousins slept out in the backyard camper, just about this size! Lots of fond memories in that trailer. πŸ™‚

  3. My husband and I do the same thing. We look on craigslist and just think about all the cool things we could do. Monique’s trailer looks so good, especially with your fabric.

  4. It’s simply dreamy! I actually used a table saw all by myself last month. I really want to master some power tools so I can make things out of something other than fabric. I think I may have grunted a little while cutting that wood. Off to look at that darling trailer some more…..

  5. Wow! This is really amazing!! I would love to do this to the small camper we have. We never use it, never have. We purchased it to rehab but it’s one of those projects we never got around too! Kudos to Monique for gettin’ it done!!

  6. I love the stove’s little spot of contrast color, even though I’m sure I wouldn’t have liked it if the rest of the camper was dull shades of brown and orange (the 70s do not need to live on).

  7. The interiors give off a refreshing appeal that is good for hot summer days. Seeing this design makes want to eat some citrus fruits right from the fridge! I’m impressed by the way you did that heavy task! Tools made out for women’s work are probably more precise because of the careful nature of women.
