Kathreen from Whip Up has a new book out. Little Bits Quilting Bee is all about using small bits of fabric, such as charm squares, jelly rolls, layer cakes and fat quarters to create a bunch of fun, modern quilts, from wall hangings to bed quilts. (Quilters have great terms for identifying every kind of fabric scrap.)
All sorts of aesthetics are represented in Kathreen's designs. Some quilts are sewn from solid fabrics only. Another features reproduction prints from the 1930s. There are japanese novelty prints, woodsy prints, modern florals and geometrics (my alley). My favorites of Kathreen's designs involve circles. She has a play quilt that looks like a scrappy, colorful sun and another that reminds me of the Spirograph I received for my 6th birthday, with interlacing swooshes and circles. The photography is fresh and clean– and there's a pattern pack included! That's the best.
In celebration of Kathreen's fabulous new quilting book, Chronicle Books is providing me with a copy to give away. Send Kathreen your well wishes in the comments below and I'll employ the RNG to help me pick a winner.
Follow the Little Bits Quilting Bee blog tour over at Chronicle's lovely blog.

I always enjoy WhipUp, so I’m looking forward to the wonderful things that I’m sure are in this book!
so many times you feel some people just got all the talent and I must have been elsewhere the day talent was given out. But, then you see a site like yours showing the beautiful items you have made, and then on top of that, women supporting women, making us aware of the wonderful book that Kathleen has written to further inspire others. Books like this makes you realize it can start small and and you do, and when the project is done you say wow, I did that. Then its on to something bigger because the confidence was born. Thank you for your site and women like Kahtleen restoring joy in life when you sometimes need a reminder.
Congratulations Kathreen. I love little bits of fabric. Makes me giddy.
Awesome! My grandmother taught me to quilt when I was a teenager, but sadly I haven’t done anything in years. I’m thinking this book would be some great inspiration and motivation to get quilting again. 🙂
Congratulations Kathrenen on the new book! It looks really fabulous! I would love to see some new patterns for all my scraps.
Thanks Heather for holding the giveaway!
Betsy Pratt
Is there anything more satisfying than creating something out of scraps? I don’t think so! Thanks for sharing, would love to be the lucky winner!
How fun! I’d love to check out her book. I save all my scraps and I do mean ALL, it’s ridiculous, lol. I’m that way with paper too. I’d love some inspiration for all those litte bits of fabric.
Thank you for the chance. 🙂
Layer cakes are 10 inches square, don’t know if I’d call that a “scrap” but I get the point you’re trying to make… and certainly coming from the home decor/accessory/clothing sewing world these seem like scraps… but there’s something about buying new fabric and calling it “scrappy” that gets me (but everyone does it). Whatever.
All the pictures I’ve seen of the quilts in this book look just beautiful, however a person arrives at the fabric used to make them.
this book makes me look forward to sewing many more quilts so i have a collection of scraps of my own to use. Congratulations on the book.
Kathleen, it is a fabulous looking book from what I’ve seen on this book tour. Keep up the great work on your blog as well, I love it!

New to quilting and have decided that jelly rolls, layer cakes and charm squares are the way to go to avoid a large fabric stash (already have a knitting, spinning and embroidery stash). This book would be perfect to add to my book stash!
I love how this book focuses on the charm packs and jelly rolls that I already have as well as the other ‘cuts’ you can buy. It looks like a great book judging by the pictures I’ve seen and what the bloggers other than you have already said about how great this book is.
Thank you for the chance to have a copy of my own.

I have been drooling over this book since it arrived at my local bookstore. (sorry Chapters)
Now that you mentioned the good old spirograph, which I too LOVED as a child, I will have to go and re-look at it once again. What a lovely early christmas present this would be for me, one I didn’t have to go out and buy for myself.
Awesome! So cute!
I have gigantic bunch of fabric scraps. This book will definitely help me to eliminate my scraps !!! Congrats on your new book !!!
Kathleen has recognized the value of variety and interest that is created by the scrappy look and her book I believe would be a fabulously helpful guide to using this medium successfully. I recently took part in a number of charm swaps to provide access to a reasonable degree of scrappiness in my fabric stash and feel sure this book would further secure those investments!
I would love to have this book, specially that I have so many small pits of fabric. Thanks!
My scrap basket is overflowing so thanks kathreen for writing such a useful book 🙂
